I recently bought a porter cable air compressor to replace this P.O.S. Campbell Hausfeld. A friend dropped by the house the other day and saw it sitting in the corner of the garage. He needs a compressor and I need his r/c stuff. We came up with a solution. If I can fix this POS we will trade.

Its about 3 years old with less than 2 hours of run time on it. The problem is now it doesn't build up any air pressure, however, the motor runs fine. Would this be a reguator problem or is it more likey the o rings are bad. Any ideas?
I got to fix this as i need his r/c stuff!!!..helppppp

P.S. (I dont know too much about these things)

Fire it up and dunk it in soapy water to see where it leaks from... Works with tires.

Sorry man, I can't contribute anything, but I figured I could start your day with a laugh :)

I didn't say drop THE WIRE in the water. Silly head.

Anyhow maybe that is a good idea... See if you can determine from the sounds if it is leaking. is it one of those loud buggers that rattles away like no tommorow or is it kind of quiet?

If the motor runs good I would asume that is a sign of the machine operating under it's normal parimiters. If whatever is used to create the preasure was inoperable I would think the whole shebang would seize up and...I dunno... start smoking or something.

With logical deduction that only leaves the theroy that the air is somehow escaping containment and leaking into the imediate vacinity of the machine.

Heh, lots of big words, you like? I probably misspelled 90 percent of em, but you get the point.

get the model A/C and call the manufacturer...tell them you used it less than 2 hours and it leaks...it sat in the garage for a while and you need to know if they can help you w/ a seal rebuild kit.....they may send one free....once you get the kit it should come w/ instructions on what seals go where....change em out (all of em) and see if it works....tweaks reasoning is pretty correct.....you may have some other issues like in the comp chamber itself but not likely.....damn I love fixing stuff like that...am I stupid or something??? well I guess to some degree we all like wrenching, look at the "fun" we have w/ RC cars....:D

the one i had, had a teflon ring around the piston, it was a wobble compressor.. pop the head off and have a looksy.. see if the cycilnder is ok.. if it is you just need the seal rebuild kit as stated by fishy.. google the make and model, email them or call them. they have rebuild kits but the one for mine was 80 bux, so i opted out. lmk if you need some help. also check your connections to the tank, as stated my tweaker, dont dunk it in water, but mix up a spray bottle of 1/2 dish soap 1/2 water.. shake well, and spray any connections. just stay away from the motor and electrical stuffs. do this while its on, and watch for bubbles to form. if they do (if the leak is to bad it may not be bubbles but you should still be able to see it) theres your leak. i would do that first befor you go tearing apart the head.. it may just need a quick teflon taping and a wrenching. easy fix.

Call their tech support and ask how to check it.
I did that with an OLD Badger I picked up at a garage sale for 10.00 They were more then helpful in helping me track down the issue.

thanks guys...ok..I'm about to go outside and turn it on and spray that solution stuff on it and see what happens. If its indeed the seals i will order the kit, even if its 80 bucks or so. He would give me more value in r/c stuff. I will be back in a few to tell my results.

I will call their tech support this afternoon.

Has anyone had good sucess with H Campbell equipment?

ok that didnt take long. I started it up and ran it for about 10 min. I went outside to check on it and it had 20 lbs of air pressure. It should have been a lot more than that.
While it was running i began spraying the sloution on it. While doing that i noticed only one motor was spinning, instead of both. I spun the back side of the motor to see if it would turn over and sparks flew out (scared the crap out of me BTW) and stopped spinning immediately..I did that 3 times...same result everytime. Something must be broken off. Calling CH now.

I will give ya a call tomorrow..you working?

Ok.... i dug in deeper and this is what i have now. Looks like i need to replace the motor on the right. I'm thinking the o rings wore out and caused the motor to freeze and burn up. When i pulled the piston out there was shreaded rubber in the sleeve. Does that sound like the proper diagnosis?

One motor...extra crispy. Did you call CH to see how much a replacement motor is going to cost you? I wonder if you might be able to get a deal on a new one. Considering the unit only has a total of 2 hours of run time.

I called but got that "ALL OPERATORS ARE BUSY " b.s.! I will call again in the morning. The listings on their website doesn't show there pricing. It must cost an arm and a leg.

I have a (5 gallon?) Hausfield-Campbell single motor oilless that is literally older than my firstborn, and I've worked the crap out of it, using it for everything from airbrushing to driving impach wrenches. That's at least 22 years old. I've changed the motor brushes on it a total of three times, replaced the bleed valve once, and have had to do zero maintenance on it otherwise. It sits outside under the porch, and the air is piped into the house.

Maybe H/C quality has took a dive in decent years.
