buying a mt have choice between aftershock and savage which one:constipat

Savage all the way. Savage is fun out the box, and comes with everything you'll need (Except for fuel, batteries, etc.).

Personally I would rather get Aftershock and upgrade it. The Savage is easier to work on but having an LST hopped up, it had the rail issue only. It seemed to be better choice for me. Jumping it was better. The huge shocks made it much easier to go big on jumps.

However, a Savage with the LST Shock conversion would be interesting.

The side rails have a tendency to split from upside down landings. At least from me. They need to be re-enforced. Some have gone toi aluminum but I still think something has to give on blows like this.

yeah the problem with aluminum parts is all they do is move the problem

any other known problems with the aftershock?? is it gonna be a good sturdy truck for weekend bashing??

The Pipe is very restrictive. An LST pipe will do you good to release the power of it.

Both trucks will be fun right out of the box but I also rather the Aftershock. Like Jon mentioned replace the stock pipe with an LST or Savage pipe, other than it's ready to go. You can run the stock pipe with no problems but there is a big difference in power, it's worth the 20-30 dollars IMO. I could name a ton of other things I think you should do to it but that goes for almost any rc...I have never left one stock.

Actually, I change my mind. Go with the Aftershock. It comes with a JR radio equipment. Yeah, change the pipe on it, LST pipes are the best.

yeah so theres no major issues with the aftershock??

The aftershock has a few issues, but I preferred it over my 3.3 chassis revo with a 18TM and my savage. I sold both of those shortly after getting the AS.

The weaknesses:
2-speed
arms
chassis rails
pipe
turnbuckles
engine brace

Suggested upgrades:
LST2 two speed ($40 ebay)
LST2 shocks ($50-$60 ebay)
RPM arms with short lunsford turnbuckles in the upper arms. ($80-$90)
Lunsford turnbuckles for the other 4 main turnbuckles ($45)
Any other pipe. ($25 ebay)
Dynamite engine brace ($16)

For the pipe, a Losi HT LST pipe is pretty good. I run a HPI Savage polished pipe and really like it.

This truck is much more fun to drive than the savage or revo. I had revo issues with big air. Always busted a shock, rocker, rocker post, bent the chassis, engine moves, chews up spurs, blow tranny gears...

With the savage, it just handles so poorly. Otherwise with all the recent things HPI has done to it (different bulk system to access diffs, receiver box, trans case, engine protector thing), it is a much better to work on and more capable truck out of the box than it used to be. Aside from the really crappy handling.

Still, in the end, out of all the trucks I've had over the past 8 years (which is probably about 15-20), the aftershock is my favorite.

I'm working on making a skid plate out of aluminum that ties the front/rear skids to the center. That will hopefully end my chassis rail issue... I've broken 3 sets right between the front/center skid. It's a pain to replace them.

i talked to both the lhs and they said after shock is BAD

Probably bacuase they either make more money off the HPI or they carry more stuff for the HPI.

I have found out that it is hard to trust LHS's because they always tell you want they want to tell you to make the $$$! Not the truth. Go to another hobbie store and they will tell you something different depending on what they carry plus different people at the same shop will tell you different things, that is why we are on this forum, to listen to everyone's opinion and make up our own minds! :)

The new HPI Savage XL looks way cool though!
