Doesn’t matter how many bases are covered. Everyone can be hacked...

Depends on how smart the hacker is...

If its just a script kiddie then most time they do not even know what to do with the information the read on how to hack.

If someone is smart and tries hard enough nothing is 100% If you can't hack a site then you can always rely on Social Engineering. It’s amazing how much info you can get out of people.....

Social engineering concentrates on the weakest link of the computer security chain. It is often said that the only secure computer is an unplugged one. The fact that you could persuade someone to plug it in and switch it on means that even powered down computers are vulnerable.

Also, the human part of the a security set-up is the most essential. There is not a computer system on earth that doesn't rely on humans. This means that this security weakness is universal, independent of platform, software, network or age of equipment.

Anyone with access to any part of the system, physically or electronically is a potential security risk. Any information that can be gained may be used for social engineering further information. This means even people not considered as part of a security policy can be used to cause a security breach.

Any site can be hacked. Literally there's only so much you can do to stop this. I remember a few years ago the Smart Parts site got hacked and the hackers said they were trying to so people knew that they needed better security on their sites. Maybe it's one of those conspiracy theories where the security companies purposely try to hack sites to get people to buy their products.

I personally think that these worms from Windows is done by themselves because they get a cut from every computer that needs repair.

Yes it's very possible that we could be hacked, however I do take measures to try to prevent someone from hacking the site. From hiring security sys admins, applying known fixes myself, to doing backups. Along with that our host does monthly, weekly, and daily backups of the site. In fact someone could hack the site right now and delete everything on the server... 10-20 mins later we'd be right back online w/ problems.

I'm hoping you just missed the "o" in your typing and that you mean we would be back w/o (without) problems.

I'd hate to come back with them...:D

I certainly agree that if you backup often down time would be at a minimum. Most website hackers just like to change the index page to show that you have been hacked. Just like planting a flag on a mountain after climbing. Or they could delete everything. That is where the good backup comes into play.

I personally am not worried about my cheesy sites being hacked... but i do host with company's that offer unlimited hosting for insanely cheap amounts... so i never know if my host will just disappear so I backup often for that reason LOL

I know arent they great LOL...

I have been lucky though one of my sites as been up for almost a year and I paid 5 bucks via an eBay auction LOL

heres a email that was sent from the forum to all the members explaining what has happened

Here is the run down on what happened for people who didn't catch any or some of it!

Early today, around TEN-ELEVEN a.m. CST we were hacked.

~Heres how it happened.

-Cobra, the head admin here, got his account hacked. Someone used a brute forcer(a program that guesses passwords) to get his password. They de-admined all the admins, and changed cobras e-mail and password.

~Heres how it was fixed

-I found Cobras phone number and called him. I spoke with him about the situation, he was unaware of this due to his absense here. He got on and couldn't do anything because his password was changed. We talked for a good long time before finally coming up with ideas. None worked. He then told me to mess with the Website Control Panel because he was tired. He gave me the Website Control Panel head password. I fooled with it until finally finding how to change Cobras password through the website control panel. I figured it out. I changed it, got in there, and changed his e-mail and we were safe. Now here we are.

~NUMBER ONE!! WERE ARE YOU??

-If you noticed, when you type the number one in, you see a white box with a red x. This is because the hacker made it so the number one doesn't exist here. He was ingenious by doing so. This prevented us from doing a simple rollback that required us to type in a script with the number one. When we did this is didn't work because one doesn't excist. This is what it looks like.

5 4 3 2 1
five four three two one

~What is this annoying popup?!

-The popup is an attempt from the hacker to get cobras webhosting password. When you logon to the website control panel, you get this prompt. He thought he could fool cobra. If he would have gotten it, the forum would be gone. He could have deleted all backups and the site. Thank god he didn't get it! We will get rid of this popup asap!

~What should I do to help?

-CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD!!! Especially change it if you entered it in the box. That will the staff alot of time!
-Be Patient! Everything will be fixed in a few days!
-Follow Doomsdays rule!

~Cobra(mark) and I will be filling out a FBI report tomorrow. These hackers are busted!

-We HAVE to leave pbf in its current state, with all the forums gone... We can recover them easily, but for the FBI, we MUST leave them alone.

!!You ARE aloud to post in the lounge like you would anywere else! Just no Buy/Sell/Trade!!

P.S.

If any of you wondered why I am an admin, it is simply because of my acts today. I am now working with cobra to prevent this from every happening again. I will be handling all errors and problems in the system. I will also be helping out around here as much as I can. Sorry if this does not apeal to all of you.

Thanks guys,
Avanters

Exactly, Hakers are a reality of the internet. If you don't wanna possibly get hacked or get a virus then you need to stay 100% away from the net. In the real world you take all the precautions you can and excercise a little common sense.
