Petroleum can damage some plastics It will also attract more dust and dirt on your next run.
I use compressed air and a brush to clean my r/c's. The body, tires and wheels can be easily removed for a clean in water and dishsoap if needed.
This Granite was removed from the box and taken outside. The very first thing my kid said was "it's waterproof" and immediately drove it through some soupy mud puddles. When we got back inside I put it in the shower and used the wand to wash it all out. The entire chassis tub was packed with mud and grass. I let it dry for about a week before we drove it again. No issues at all, and I have done this a number of times when an RC got really dirty. WD40 afterwards helps rid the RC of any excess water.

Not that I recommend any of this, other than WD40, but it works. When your 6 year old kid gets them muddy, there's no getting to the screws to tear it down 😆

I forgot to add 'hammer and chissel' to the necessary cleaning tools list! 🤣

I don't think water is such a good solution for cleaning a car anymoreAfter washing once and using compressed air and drying it anywayIt attracts rust need to start looking for a substance that you spray on the car and removes the mud without using waterAnd it doesn't attract rust either

That is what WD40 is for. It removes moisture. Folks think it is a lubricant. But its intended purpose is moisture dispersal. It's perfectly fine to get things wet. You just gotta make sure you get them dry asap.

yeah its a water displacer not a lubricant like people think, it just makes the water go somewhere else. i like it

I don't usually use WD 40To protect against rust or keep water outOnly with silicone oilWD 40 is not so healthy for bearings and it removes the lubricating parts in the car it is not healthy for the car Maybe only with silicone spray but even after wash the car it is not sure that silicone spray helps keep rust out because you have to wait for the car to dry.Silicone does not stick to wet things
Don't forget that DW40 also removes dirt and glue, which is not good for the car.

You could maybe spray wd40 on the outside parts
But water will easily get into the bearings and internal parts
You can't be sure after washing that there are parts that it won't get inside
And there are things in the inside parts that are too sensitive to wd40
So need to find another idea without using water
A substance that you can spray on the car and remove the dirt with air
An option that might be possible after washing isWD-40 Specialist ® White Lithium GreaseBut the question is, is it harmful to the plastic

I've been using WD40 on my RC's since the 80's. It not only keeps the rust at bay, but it also freshens up the plastics. I spray everything except the tires, including the electronics. I have never once experienced any detrimental effects on my bearings.

I have WD 40 but the regular blue .Have you triedWD-40 Specialist ® White Lithium GreaseBut ?Is it better ?

Nope. Definitely not lithium based on my RC's. Petroleum based lubricants have no business anywhere on an RC car. Especially bearings 😉

And do you spray on the entire car, including the plastic parts? In the right amount or just a little on the places where there is metal?
This is the WD 40 I have at homeI don't know if it's the right kind. What kind of WD 40 do you use? There are many types from what I understand

There is also the fear that the water will penetrate into the internal parts of the car
As for the area of rear or front gears and more
Because water penetrates everywhere
Do you open all the plastics and where the gears are and clean there too?

My car just has so many metal parts
Even when I wash I have to spray the whole car with WD 40

WickedFog

From what I checked on their website there are so many types of wd 40
I would love to know what is the most recommended.
What kind of thanks!

That right there is the only one you need. The original formula. I don't use the straw. I hold the rc up and spray the entire car, with wheels off. You don't really want it on your tires, but it can freshen up rubber as well. Just make sure you remove all excess, because it will soften rubber pretty quickly (like within a few days). I try to keep it fairly light, but I try to get everything, plastic and all. Then I do my best to wipe it down, using a soft bristle brush to push any excess out into an area I can get to with a paper towel. I don't go for super dry. Just leave it shiney. Pooled WD40 can and will soften plastics too, but you'd have to leave it pretty wet for that to happen, and it would take a bit of time, in which case, it will evaporate by then anyway.

But that's the other benefit. Plastic, like everything on this planet, deteriorates and dries out over time. WD40 actually rejuvenates plastics, by replenishing the oils the plastic loses over time. You see used car dealerships use it all the time in engine compartment plastics. Ever pop the hood on an older car to see it look all shiney and new? That's WD40.

Now, all this being said, the WD40 silicone spray is supposed to be good stuff as well. I just have not run out of my current stash of the regular stuff to order it and try it. But here is an article by WD40 Australia talking about its benefits at rejuvenating plastic. I don't have a single problem using regular WD40, but I am going to give this stuff a try one of these days.

I will show you a before and after here soon. I have an RC in need of the WD40 treatment. But it's blistering cold outside at the moment, and we have a so-called blizzard in the way 😅

Thanks for the detailed answer, that's helpful!

Does anyone know what kind of wrench I need to open this wheel? It looks like a pretty big screw. But in a hexagonal shape like this.

Looks like just your standard hex, with fancy details cut into it. 17mm?

Ok, great, I'll check

Regarding the cleaning, I just washed the car
But I noticed because it contains a lot of stretchy material
It is difficult to reach all areas

I disconnected the receiver
And I put it aside
But there is ESC
It is waterproof
And there is a servo
It is also waterproof, but for some reason I am afraid to spray wd40 on them, so I stay away from them. Is it possible to spray them?
Or wash it in the shower or is it a problem?
