Yeah definitely try a crawler before you buy it, because we all like different things. I never would have imagined that I would like crawling. I'm not into 1:1 off road stuff, I don't go mud riding, dont like to get my truck dirty, everything I have was slammed on a static drop or riding on airbags, etc... But the first time I drove a crawler I was hooked. So I built a stock axial still thinking I didn't know if I would like it. And here I am now, built 5 crawlers, but one I built for a friend who was in need and wasn't in a position to buy one because of supporting his family, and I still have four rigs. I'm designing my own line of parts, and I'm a sponsored driver. One year ago I would have told you that you were crazy if you told me that I would like going slow. Now, I know that I was just ignorant, so I really advise you to try it out, that's why they have the crawler course, and see how you like it. You might just be surprised. If you do like it, I'll do everything I can to help you get into crawling, whether thats sending a part that you need and I have a spare, typing answers to your questions all night, just let me know.
