A lot of people rag on Craftsman tools but...

I've used my share of craftsman and snap-on tools. My uncle owns his own professional machine job (a beautiful place I might add, the equipment he has in there is like fine art) and my Dad owned a welding fabrication shop and built race enclosed and horse trailers for most of my early life, so I grew up around tools. I have more craftsman tools than snap on, and that's what I buy because it's so easy to go into a sears (I noticed K-Mart also sells them now) and get what I need, while knowing that I have a tool for life.

About the only power tool my dad owns that isn't craftsman is the weedeater--made by Weed Eater. It's about 15 years old though, probably longer than craftsman has been making weed eaters.

It's beginning to die though. It won't idle for more than 15 seconds. On the upside, you don't even have to prime it to start it, cold start after 3 weeks of non use. Just set it to full choke, and yank the starter about 6 times and it starts. Then it'll run long enough to switch it to no choke and you're ready to go.

myself, i have a full set of snap-on tools. which i totally love. but when you look to buy there new rachets/socket/wrench set and you look at there prices. its enough to give you a heart attack. i only bought my tool set cuz i got 1/2 off as a deal when i went to school for mechanics. came with a top and bottom box with about every tool i needed ( so it says ) but a mechanic never has enough tools. as for that i will always buy craftsman tools. believe me when you break that snap on wrench and you have to run down the snap on truck would will wish you could just go to sears and trade it in.

as for what fast eddy posted. i never heard of them replacing whole tool sets like that. but that sounds like you got a great deal. congratz!

craftsman tools are great i have swaped out alot even buy at garage sales and return for new ones you buy it for .25 cents at a garage sale and take it to sears and get brand new tool thats $20.00 i love craftsman

Like nitrogator said, there's a lot of good deals to be had at garage sales, but also at pawn shops. There's often many rusted craftsman tools that can be had very cheap and you can return them for new ones.

I have had Craftsman tools since i was a kid (early teens) and I still have them and have added to them, I have a Brand new set not even outta the box yet...evertime we go to the mall you gotta stop in to see whats new and i hear my wife "you have a new set just sitting there what do you need more for"...i look at her and say the same reason you look at shoes and purses:D

my other hobby is atv's,in which i repair and customize them myself, i have never bought anything but craftsman tools, there no need to buy snapon, matco etc. there way too expensive and no better than craftsman, they got an awesome warranty and there tools are just great
i have a mini wrench set that i use for turnbuckles on my rc cars, there fully polished and work awesome, so let people rag on you, because your laughing all the to the bank!
have you priced snapon tools? they have a wrench set, that has maybe 8 wrenches, for like $800! and they dont look any better than craftmans, the only advantage to snapon is if your a fulltime mechanic in which youll need some of the specialty tools they have

Here is a Snap-on set. http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...5&group_ID=340&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

Spend as much at Sears and get this. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_...ols&cName=Tool+Sets&sName=Mechanics+Tool+Sets Have money left over for a lot of RC.
What about just a nice set? http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_...ols&cName=Tool+Sets&sName=Mechanics+Tool+Sets Most of the time you can get some sets for less than $1 a tool. Can't beat that.

nice reply digger, its crazy isnt it? for my needs, sears is just fine

craftsman is great stuff i have most of them in my tool cart at my shop but you will find that certain items such as screwdrivers , allen and hex wrenches and any tool that will wear out fast that your snap on and matco will last longer oh and any socket that you will be pounding on with the impact regularly that craftsmen will only last few months before they crack or blow apart then again if you go to any shop and look in a mechanics toolbox you will see at least 3 or 4 different brands of tools in every box just thougt i would add my 2 cents in the mix

Somewhat old thread but, I love my Craftsman.I just bought $1500 in Craftsman socket sets and wrenches for school, I did not get them from Sear but through a Craftsman dealer. A lot of other kids were buying Snap-on and what not, but the thing is if you break something from Snap-on up here you have to call them and it could be a week before they come out.

The dealer where I bought my tools has a rep about 45 minutes away, if I break something and need it and they can't get it to me, but Sears in town does I can go to Sears and pick up the tool. The dealer will reimburse me for what I paid for it at Sears plus give me another tool to replace my broken one, so in the end I end up with two brand new tools.

I have never used craftsman tools but my favourite are mastercraft tools. However, i HATE snap-on. I am in high school so i take auto and the only tools we have are snap-on, and i absolutly hate them.

HAHAH I use to be in management at Sears... All I know is somebody could have lost their job if they didn't already. :D

i use craftsman too, its nice how they replace broken tools. they also have those pivoting sockets like snap-on but their cheaper! I'm with craftsman, their cheap, and just as good as anything else, And they replace em if you break it.

I've been using crafstman tools for prolly my whole life well at least since i was 7-8 when i started taking my bicycle aprt and putting it back together but I'm 17 now and the only tool i have a problem with is the 1/4 rachet they have i have 3 that need to go back to sears to get replaced but other than that i havent had a problem with anything else that crafstman makes

craftsman is a great tool for the DYI guy working at home. I work as a mechanic and have to say there honestly is a difference its the quality of tool between craftsman and the 3 big companies (Snap-On, Matco, Mac). anyways despite all the wrenches those companies have the craftsman professional series wrenches are by far the most comfortable set i have used. i still have a craftsman box and tool set at home :-)

Most of my stuff is Craftsman, including the box but there is a large mix of Snap-On, Matco, and Mac in my inventory. I find Craftsman to be the easiest tools to use just because if my Snap on guy comes on Monday, I break a tool on Tuesday I then have to wait a whole week for a tool that works. With the Craftsman I just take it into the local Sears on my way home from work and I am all ready to go the next day.
