About 10 years ago I purchased a full set of Craftsman tools. I got one of the upper end sets with all the goodies along with a bottom, mid, and top box. Over the years I have kept good care of them and have replaced the tools I have lost and exchanged 3 tools that I have broken. All in all it has been a great set for me around the house and in the garage.

Yesterday I went to Sears and noticed they have changed the design of a lot of the tools. The part I liked the most was the laser etching of the sizes on the sockets and a different bevel on the bottom for easier installation onto the ratchet.

I was talking to the salesman and he told me to bring my old tools back and exchange them for the new style. I questioned him on this and he made an appointment for me to come in today and do an exchange. We spent 4 hours with multiple trips back to my car to get more tools. At the end of the day, He replaced every single tool I had with brand new ones. It didn't mater what the condition. In many cases, I actually got more tools then I brought in. Some of the socket sets had additional sizes that weren't offered in the same set I originally got. I had my receipt that showed the "Master Set" I originally purchased and he sat down and itemized every tool in the set I got to the same set they now sell, and added the additional tools to my exchange. He also exchanged tools that were included then but not now

After ringing up the exchange I walked out the door with 3,400.00 of brand new tools for a grand total of 89.00 out of pocket for a few things I wanted that weren't included.

I have to say, they have me for a lifetime customer.

Nice little story.

They will replace any tool as long as you have a receipt.
Most cases, if it's a broken tool, they just exchange it.
No questions asked.
I like Craftsman.

I like craftsman as well. Awesome tools, good prices and there no questions asked replacement is awesome. I've owned a matco tool box, a Snap on tool box (Never again) and have my craftsman tool box that I started out with, and thats still the box I use today. The matco one is ok, my snap on one was poop. (sold that). Once I need to replace my box, Ill buy another craftsman.

Wow, that's great Eddy! Good story. I've never had an issue with Craftsman stuff, have plenty of it around here.

I have sworn by Craftsman since I was a teen. I still have my original 1/2" and 3/8" drives. And I JUST finally had to replace my 1/4" ratchet a few weeks ago. No questions asked.
I didn't know they'd take old tools back in trade for new, though. I had an old style full socket set and I just went ahead and bought a full set of 1/2", 3/8" and 1/4" SAE and Metric laser etched sockets because they do rule. Well worth the investment.

Always been a fan of Craftsman, but I didn't know this either! Gosh darnit, I wish I'd of kept my receipts over the years! I knew they replaced broken ones, but not just for upgrades!

My Father's birthday is this Friday and I my brother and I got him a whole new set of Craftsman tools (the laser etching on the sockets is killer!) Maybe I'll root around his house for his receipts and take his old stuff back for some new ones for me!

I do agree. the no questions asked part is great.

no, "you used your ratchet to do what?!" questions. haha

I also, am a definite lifetime customer. But my first set actually has the laser etching.....

I also, since my master set is at work, grabbed a 180 piece set for home, it was only 99 bucks! :OMG:

Great deals if you keep an eye on the news papers and the flyers they send out.

I have a full set of craftsman also and they work good. I have managed to destroy 3 half inch ratchets and 3 breaker bars. The 3 breaker bars all did the same thing. The pin that holds the swivel head on just fell out. I used to work at a sears store and we had ratchet rebuild kits and I would just snag a couple of rebuild kits and rebuild my ratchets. I still have a few rebuild kits lying around now. I also have a full set of snap ons I think the snap ons are 100 percent better but you get what you pay for.

i love my craftsman tools at my previous job i was a small equipmeant mechanic. All my tools were craftsman the deisel mechanics mainly used snap on but.. for the money craftsman is the best. I've only broken a few tools.

anyone who rags on craftsman tools obviously never owned or even used them. There some of the best tools on the market and have the best customer service/return policy out there hands down.. Id take Craftsman of Crap-on ANY day.

Do you guys like the tools or the return policy.

Well I have used my share of tools and after ragging (and breaking a few) on Craftsman I can say they are indeed great tools, and their return policy is awsome too, I returned 8 tools and got them all exchanged even after i told the guy what I was using them for (he just smiled). I got a set for my B-day and I have been using them with great results.

80% of my tools I own are craftsman and I only used there return policy twice. Once for a socket that split, and another one for a ratchet that was being used as a hammer..lol.. Alot of my tools are hand me downs from my dad, and the rest I've just accumulated over time. I did splurge on a snap on roller toolbox that cost me $4k, and I wouldnt piss on that thing if it was on fire. The drawers are weak, the bearings in the drawers went out in a matter of weeks, and the wheels on it are TOTAL junk. 3rd week I owned it I tried to exchange it for something else and the same crap on salesman would give me $1500 for it (because that model was having problems.. that he forgot to mention when I bought it from him). So I have my 15 year old $700 craftsman box holding my tools and my $4k crap on box holding supplies like wax, towels, paints and also has my radio sitting on it.. Thats about all I found it good for.

Only wrench I've ever broke was a snap on. Split right in the middle and damn near busted my wrist. That was the day I went back to craftsman. I also own a few mac tools, and there pretty decent but expensive.

Yeah i agree with you on the Snap-on tool boxes being crap. My dads was total junk in about a year.

Never had a prob with my Snap-ons but I only have a few expensive screwdrivers, You almost DONT want to use them, lol.

lol.. I hear that.. I have a few of "Them" tools I dont use as often because there expensive and still look nice..lol..

I was wrenching on my Revo and discovered that I didn't have any wrenches that fit the pivots. I went and raided my dad's Craftsman 1/4 in. drive set and found the perfect 1/4 in. deep-socket wrenches for the job. After I finished, I went and bought a set of my own (Dad tends to be out of town when i'm playing with my RC stuff).

I've had craftsman tools in the past and have never had a problem exchanging tools that were broken.

About a month ago, I went to sears with 2 3/8" drive ratchets that the socket release button had fallen out of. I've used both of these ratchets for well over 20 years.
They swapped them for new ones, no questions asked.

I've used Craftsmen tools for years with good results. I remember as a kid I left one of my Dad's Craftsmen screwdrivers in the yard, and later ran it over with the lawnmower. They replaced the screwdriver at no cost, but my dad made me pay for the lawnmower blade to be sharpened. :\

Craftsman has always made and continues to make great hand tools. Now in the past few years they have been slipping in the power tools which is why some people stay away from them.

I have alot, alot of craftsman tools. But I also have about a grand in 10 wrenches 10 sockets 1 ratchet a sweivel and a swevel tip extension, Matco. The wrenches are the ratcheting end type.
