After my PSU died and I got it replaced, I plugged in a cable wrong and fried my thermistor on the hotend, I thought my printer was done for. I put a new hotend cable in today and that fixed the thermistor problem.
But my Y axis had developed a thumping noise after the PSU failure. After talking to some 3d printer electronics gurus, I was told it was likely a bad stepper. But I remembered someone else having this issue, and it was an undervoltage issue.
Long story short, I adjusted the PSU voltage potentiometer from 12v to 13.45v and the thumping noise went away.
So if anyone has this issue, you can bump your PSU voltage on a 12v Creality printer to 13.5v fairly safely and resolve this. Going above 13.5 is not recommended for the longevity of your PSU, but going to 13.5v will shorten the time it takes your bed to heat up
