A friend gave me 20 AA NIMH batteries with a cheap over night charger. The light on the charger evidently doesn't work. It stys red and never turns to green..like it should...when the batts are fully charged. I really dont want to buy a charger for used batteries.
Since i can't rely on the green light to indicate a full charge i must go by the temp of the batts.

How hot should i let them get to know when a full charge is possible? Just let them warm up a little?...Or maybe slightly hotter???...any ideas???
Thanks

You're talking about batteries rated 2000mah, right? [/B]

Right wdavid.....just dont wanna damage the batts. So far i stop charging them when they get med warm..just before they get hot.

You need to be real careful,
One of the mods here, I wont mention names, (Christian) melted a set and burned a hole in his workbench by forgetting to unplug them.

Pay the few extra dollars and get a peak charger with an automatic shut off.

Don't just be careful with your charger , Don't even use it. Its not worth the risk.

LOL I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who used the wrong stuff to charge a battery. I used a Hobbico 905 ni cad charger to try to charge a NIMH pack and burned a hole in my workbench and also in the pack. Good news is I got a great charger out of the deal and the pack wasn't so fried that it stopped working. That was three months ago. Newayz here is the charger I am using and can't enough good about it. Although I think that ED mentioned the reverse polarity thing in the other thread and his charger might be better for wdavid hicks. Newayz her it is.

LMAO!!!!! geeeezeeee....out a battery pack and a work bench.
Guess i will bite the bullet and get a peak charger
thanks for the info Eddy!

I'm not surprised folks are burning holes in benches. I hit a rub with my sons buggy and the 6 cell NiMH pack shifted forward enough to short the leads together. In the short time it took me to get to it, the amount of heat was so high that I couldn't get it out to save the buggy. The amount of energy generated when you short these things out was incredible.
