Sweet can't wait...One question though... What ever happened to the Super Cane you were building ?

I still have all the parts for the Super. Just wanting to finish this one first. Still need to get a few more things. And have my CVD's shorten...

Well I hope everything turns out the way you want it . Oh and up here on Vancouver Island we had our first comp/gtg . I had my 2.2 cane ready to go but for some strange reason stick type chassis are not allowed . Kinda sucked because I have a 2.2 and a super ! Oh well I'm building a Wheely King based crawler anyways .

Money invested? Anyone want to guess... It would cost close to $1,500.00 or more, but I have connections... There is no way I could afford to build this if I didn't.

As stated above this is just Stage one. Stage two will be soon after. Stage two will envolve a few new Custom Parts and to improve anything in Stage one that might needed it.

First thing I did was bolt up my New Knuckles and Axle Tubes. The Axle Tubes I went with are Hot-Racing. Unlike RC4WD and Integy's Tubes. These are made to work with Clod knuckles not just there own. Which is a good thing for me. My Knuckles bolted right up with ease. No problems or Issues.

The only thing I needed to do was find a way to get more Steering out of the Tubes. Even with my knuckles. The Steering arm would hit the inner part of the axle C's. I looked at them for a while and came up with this.

I wished I took more pic's. I'll get more of later and post them up.

On the tube itself there is a Flat spot on top. It's there so the Braces have clearance. Well I rotated the C's 45*. That made the Flat spot (Which is marked in Yellow) On the backside of the tubes. I cut off the extra. Which only left me 2 mounting screws. So I drilled and counter sunk 3rd one. Grinded a little of the edge and was done. 10min of work....

Before and After

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w94/spg7565/DSCF2787-1.jpg

With the CVD's in. I max out the CVD's before the Knuckles touch anything. This gives me the max steering I can get. Anymore steering would involve different Shafts.

As you can see in the pic below. The tires are turned to there Max. I don't have my Steering links hooked up yet, b/c the BTA kit from TTR hits the housings before the CVD's Max out. So a custom link is needed.

Now for the back axle tubes and Shafts. Nothing Special here. Same axle tubes, TTR Straight axles and my Knuckles. I cut of the knuckles steering arm. No need for it.

Bolted everything up and together.

Wheels and Tires

Went with 2.2 Jordans again. Went wider this time. I think I may narrow them 1/2in.
http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w94/spg7565/DSCF2778-1.jpg

I went with Erickson 2.2 Clod beadlocks. Made a new Inner ring for 14mm hex's.
http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w94/spg7565/DSCF2775-1.jpg

I used LST2 14mm Adaptors for my 14mm Mod. Thanks for Mnster for this trick.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p36/jpcustomrcs/143m.jpg

Pretty simple little mod really. Just drill out the hole on the shaft to match the new Pins that come with the LST2 kit. I think it's 1/8th bit.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p36/jpcustomrcs/DSC01596.jpg

Then make a groove around the new Hex's for the O-Ring to set in. I used a Dremel and a cut off wheel.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p36/jpcustomrcs/DSC01601.jpg

Slide them on. Then cut the extra part of the axles that stick out now. Doing this mod also shortens your overall track width by 1/4in..
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p36/jpcustomrcs/DSC01609.jpg

You will need either a spacer or washer to keep the bearings in the knuckles from sliding out.

Next little trick.... With the wider tires and CVD's. I was right at 12.5in. I'm at 12in at this point with the 14mm mod and the new Beadlocks. This helped more then I thought it would. All I did was widen the inner part of the wheel. This brings the tire more to the center of the rig. With these beadlocks its simple. I mounted the outsides like normal. Then on the inside I placed one ring. Then the tire. Then sandwiched the tire with another ring. I pulled on the tires pretty good and thet held in there fine. I'm going to mod the rings to have more bitting power later.
http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w94/spg7565/DSCF2818.jpg

You can see how much closer the wheel is to the knuckles

Before
http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w94/spg7565/DSCF2815.jpg

After
http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w94/spg7565/DSCF2814.jpg

Can't get any closer then that and believe it or not. This shorten my track width by almost 1/2in. So by doing these 3 cheap and easy mods. I gained back 3/4in...

Here's the Electronics
http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w94/spg7565/DSCF2821.jpg

And the CrawlMaster beside my old Lathes
http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w94/spg7565/DSCF2813.jpg

Mounted the axles to the new chassis and bolted up my old wheels. I'm still waiting on some rings and new foams for my new tires.

Nice build, and great pics, but please resize them to no larger than 600x800 as per site rules. Thanks.

Thanks... I just left Links instead. I didn't feel like resizing all those pic's..

If you use this little program, it will resize a whole bunch to the same size all at once: http://www.virtualzone.de/files/resizer.zip
I've been using it for a few years and it works really well. A thread like this needs those pics within it. I may not have a crawler, but seeing all the mechanics of one makes me want a crawler...

What are the little bubbles on the axles?

This thing:

I took it from this:

The ball was used on the stock clod of Suspension links. No one uses them anymore really... I have since shaved the bottom half even with the tubes....Thanks for the program. I'll look in to it. I have the pic's saved on photobucket and on my site. So resizing them would change the size on my site aswell.

Got my new cases and gears installed.... Man these are sweet. The smoothest spinning gears I have ever seen. I decided not to powder coat the cases. I just want to get these thing running soon. Still need to fill in the bottom of the case and sand smooth. Then lay a couple of layers of Dura-Surf. Other then wiring it all up. Thats it....

Got a little more done. I had to take care of other things before I can touch my stuff. I lowered the Front down even more.
DSCF2928.jpg

I also have the JB Weld setting up as I type.
DSCF2924.jpg

I used Tape as an outline first. Applied the JB weld. Let it set for about 15min. Then peeled back the tape for a nice clean line. Tomorrow I'll sand it down and apply the DuraSurf Skid with two layers.

Can't tell by the pic's. but the Servo isn't touching the axles. Once I get it sanded down you'll be able to tell easier.

Well got the Electronics placed... Still need to Solder the Battery wires into one. Wire up the Volt Reg and plug everything up... But I have everything up and out of the way. With having the Body slammed like this. There really wasn't a lot of place for all this crap..

Very impressive. I can almost hear the suspension creaking and groaning on the rocks.

Thats whats so cool.. There is no suspension to speak of really...

Well here is it's first test run. Still working out the Bugs. Things to improve.. Steering, Smoothness with the motors, and foams. The steering isn't due to the BTA either. I just need to play with some other ideas.

Impressive, very nice rig you have built. When is it going to its first competition?

Nice work! it's been a while since i've seen any one else with reversed rear axles. Interesting choice of Hubs with 608z skateboard bearings . . . . not seen those either. :)
