Anybody here running or run a 15th tooth pinion on a Traxxas rustler vxl? I recently put a 13toothnon it and it really improved the truck. Everything was improved. It’s just a lot more fun RC.

I’m thinking of trying a 15 tooth pinion. For no other reason then the 13 tooth transformed it. I’m curious to see if the difference from 13-15 is as stark as from 11-13.

Thanks in advance.

Driving style, battery, motor, tires, surface, and run time...
yeah.webp

Stock gearing for a Rustler VXL is 83/28 (spur/pinion)?

The stock gearing for my vxl is an 11/54.
Rusty is correct for the 2WD, you are correct for the 4WD.

I figured you were talking about the 4WD, based on the pinion size.

Thanks guys for the knowledge. Makes my learning cheaper.

I received my 15toith pinion gear today. My fan and heat sink came. I’m going to have to study on that.

But, my new body came. I like it.

Going to burn some battery tomorrow evening. Dogs are getting fed up with my dragging ass in the evenings due to this heat. They want to play.

Invest in the temp gun so you can check your electronics. For the longest time I just used a finger. If you can hold a finger for 2 seconds or more it’s “probably” good. Probably is a strong word. A one second ouch(!) is most likely not good or borderline.

Oof 🤔 Well, then... shame on OP for leading me on 😁
A "Rustler" will always be a 2wd stadium truck in my head.

I'll, again, go back to why it's so important to search for a thread dedicated to one's platform located in correct forum RC Category. Having info centralized on a specific RC platform makes things easier for future forum searches on problems/info/mods/hop-up greatness that people encounter on that platform. The Traxxas Rustler is classified as a stadium Truck model type. To confuse people even more, the Traxxas Rustler 4x4 is classified as a stadium truck by Traxxas. I would classify a Traxxas Rustler 4x4 as a four-wheel drive stadium truck or more so a mini truggy simply because of the wing mount.

In any 2wd/4wd stadium truck case... get out there and throw some dirt!

Next up: Why my Jato's ____ doesn't fit. 😁

I agree. I use a temp gun a lot on my nitros when breaking them in. Because I’m more concerned with getting the motor to a certain temp during the process and holding it through out each tank.

I run it just a few minutes ago. It’s such a fun rc. And, it’ll be a break down before I even contemplate changing from the 13 to the 15. Right now you have to be disciplined on the throttle and it’s got plenty of speed. Any more power and it’s going to start breaking things.

The dogs are happy to. Both laying in the floor guarding the door to where I keep my RC’s. Panting away but, ready to go again. lol.
