i run the Rb concepts WS7 and novarossi 421b both are exellent motors the RB has more up top end and less down low, so the nova is good on a tight track and the rb is good on a mid to fast track, nova has that much balls off the mark it will lift the front weels off the ground, still a fast motor up top but not quite the same as the RB

Where can you get RB engines for the least $$?

I got my Ws7II from crispycrittershobbyshop.com it was recommended to me by Zandor when I was looking for an RB. I dont know if there the cheapest but they have good prices and shipped my engine to me very quickly no hassles at all, great place to buy from.

Rex P5 with an 053 pipe,,, for short-medium tracks or places where you need to clear technical, turn in then clear triples, or scoot over a corner burm and shoot a pipe , etc ,etc,....

also JP Mod M2K with 86 pipe,, wicked combo,, crazy powered long stroke motor ,, similiar charactoristics as the above combo,, but about 8-9 minutes on a tank between pits, on a 25-26 second track.....

Long tracks and arse- whooping oomph,,, Rex 421B , 4 head bolt version(new)..... if you go to any larger track 100' + straight with in tight techies,, this motor wont rev-out as you pump the middle to end of the straight-away.... plus it has a wicked scream to it.... Rex not Top , lines of these seems to last in my hands...???

I've run the Rb's ,, and they always impressed me, but lately, (any of the newer version within the last year for production dates), have had an off color to the cranks,, it looks like the metal was changed up on them,, and they wear crazy fast in the rod-pin area on the crank,,, really suck-ee as I smoked 2 of them real close to one another... which i dont understand,, I still have the same P-5 and 421 that I swap depending on the track.... ???

C-5 always good if you hang out in europe,,,,,,, 500' straights,, but not to fun to maintain the clutch if you use a traditional shoe style on it,, maybe an RMV or Werx might make this a more usable motor in the states....

actaully ,, if you think about it,, rb's have had the same porting and internal designs for years,, havent changed a thing,, where the nova lines, have changed since the intro of the ws711'z and other "old timers" motors .. *grin*...

-Wm-

actually ,, if you want a nice racing motor,, look for the old hand done,, and it has to state,, "hand modified" , JP Mod P-5 ..... worth it's weight in gold,, most of the mod motors you get now are machine modded,, which is good for tolerances and what not,, but if you can get a hand-er from one of the old bucks ,,,, worth it........

so is there a such thing as a consistant motor that lasts a while b4 an affordable p/s install thats easy on the wallet, despite that its not the most powerful?

-Ult

sure as long as you consider $100 an affordable P/S. none are hard to install, and there are plenty of motors that last. but i think you need to decide between an ok "throwaway" motor, or make an investment in a "race" motor and be willing to spend the money down the road on a p/s set.

you can buy 2-3 throwaways that will last about 3-4 gallons each for roughly $350. or you can buy 1 "race" mill and a p/s set and a rod that will total about $400 and get about 10-14 gallons out of it. the right race mill will be easy to tune and hold the tune well. its just the initial investment that hurts.

the nice thing with this scenerio is, that the race mill is more powerful and fun to drive. in the end cost is ultimately almost the same, as well as longevity. however the fun factor has the potential to go way up.

No matter what motor you decide on make sure it is one that will fit your budget and I know a lot of people allways overwellm you with links to online resources but you should IMO always try when possible to support your local Hobby store. Unless you don't have one then by all means go online to get what you need. But that's just me

this guy rick does some good looking work here.....

http://www.rbmods.net

yes he does in fact do some fabulous work. i thought my v-spec had power before he got his hands on it but when i got it back, omg it was insane!

i went to a race knowing that he and his team would be there and had given little thought to handing over my brand new (not even fully broken -in) v-spec only to take a chance on getting it screwed up. after seeing several of ricks motors tearing up the track i decided to ask him a few questions. after talking with him for a brief moment i had already decided to hand it over.

my run times went up from 8 minutes/tank to almost 9 minutes/tank. you should also know that when i timed my run after he was done with it; i was running fairly rich (210F) and had installed the larger 9mm carb insert as i was using the 8mm before. i think with the proper tune i can see almost 10 minutes to a tank of fuel. oh yeah- my buggy is roar legal so dont think i use a mile of fuel line to get this much time.

my low-end power was doubled and the power curve was more controllable at the same time. VERY SMOOTH

peak rpm is very noticeably higher too.

engine temps will decrease 30F-40F and you will have more power.

rick says that by letting him do his mod work your engine life will almost double.

if the pinch goes away on a motor that you let him mod just send it to him and he will gladly pinch it free of charge. you only pay shipping.

i met rick brake at a race in springfield missouri. he is a super nice guy and is very knowledgeable. all of the guys on his race team will go out of their way to lend a helping hand, loan parts, give advice or just hang out and talk. if i could pick any team in the world to be on, this would be the one. these guys are some of the fastest you will ever see and are truely an asset to this hobby.

for less than $100 you really can't go wrong by sending your motor to him. if you are a decent racer the lap times will speak for themselves. if you just want insane power/reliability/run times then this is for you as well.

i have a buddy that just had an os 21 rg done(RBMODS) and it flat out hauls...bout 9-10 minutes like yours on a tank.....

as for resizing p/s there is only one man i trust....if you contact him you will see why....RAY ARONICA.....i posted a thread about him with links in the 1/8th buggy threads ...check it out....for newbies....15 bucks and ray will pinch wore out p/s to within tolerances better in my opinion than stock......

he knows his business.....notice on his website that he is making fun of those pinching ring tools....i thought it was funny.....i almost bought one of those before.....but with people out there like ray and rick brake....any motor you choose can be made runable again for little money....so go big...get the race motor...keep em fresh and tight and enjoy the sport we all love so much....MAN I LOVE THE SMELL OF NITRO IN THE MORNIN!!!!!!!

PEACE,
MITCH

osrocket is also a reputable pincher, and EBMods does some really nice motors as well.

i have heard of ebmods and i have searched and searched for his site to no avail....u got a link to ebmods psi?

thanks

no actually i didnt. ebmods is run by Ed Bridges

ill look for a link.

ok wow you couldnt have looked too hard. i just dogpiled "ebmods" and the first page that came up was www.ebmods.com which is Ed's site.

psi when i click that link it says the account has been suspended....see thats what i keep getting....oh well i think i may contact rbmods anyways since its closer to where i live....

wow it just did the same thing for me too. i swear it worked for me yesterday when i posted it. if you want, you can contact Ed personally on the Sgrid, look for him in the novarossi or RB concepts threads. he is local to Pa by the way.

I would go for either the WS7II or the v-spec the novarossi 421b or a cheap but still good motor is the l-collari all of these motors are fast grunt machine mills and will give you many hours of fun and racing, i have personly run the ws7, the 421b and the collaris, rb is the quickest, followed closly by the vspec, the novarossi 421b is an absolute grunt machine and has good top end but not quite the rb, but kicks ass out of any corner, and would have to be one of the best torque motors on the market, these things hall ass... depends on budget etc as to what you get but i would basically buy the best engine you can afford, as long as they are looked after they will last a long time

I would go with the WS7II. Just look at the results at the Worlds. RB engines ruled.

look at the track they ran on too. wide open and very fast. nothing at all like our US tracks. at the worlds a motor with bottom end wasn't important at all, they just needed to wind out really high. both traits of RB engines. here in the US most tracks are tight, technical, and have more jumps. all require more low end grunt to negotiate. which is why you will find novarossi, OS, and MAC engines so popular here. race results arent the end all deciding factor.
