my uncle found out last night that I'm into rc cars and trucks, so he told me that about 10 years ago he had bought a 1/16 scale kyosho monster truck kit. he bought the engine when he bought the kit so it has an engine. he never put it together and told me he would give me a real good deal on it if i was interested. what do you guys think of this older 1/16 scale kyosho. i can't find anything about it online and i dunno what its called. are kyoshos good? or maybe just some info or thoughts on 1/16 scale rc trucks

sry for the lack of info on it

Did you ask your uncle the model name?
If he hasn't assembled the kit, then he should have the instructions with the name on them.
Seems a lot easier to ask him than to shoot blindly searching on the net with little information.

That's not a 1/16th, that's 1/8th and are tons of fun! It's a tough rig, for sure (I still have mine) but, the problem is, the only place you can find parts for it is eBay.

It'd absolutely be worth building since it'll teach you a great deal about the hobby.

If the price is right, go for it!

Some of the older kits will rust when sitting around unbuilt. You may want to make sure its in reasonable shape and all the parts are still there

USA-1. Cool. The grandfather of nitro monster trucks. What is he asking for it?

what an uncle....I think I'd just give it to my nephew for christmas instead.....not like he's done anything with it in.... Oh say....10 YEARS!!!!.....sorry but I guess I look at younger family members in a different way.....you could probably sell it on e-bay and get a more modern car if you bought it anyway....I'm sure there are collectors that would like an unbuilt vintage RC.....

he hasnt told me a price yet, he just said an extremely good deal because if he just gave it to me for xmas or something, he would have to get everybody else something of the same price. so its an extremely good deal i guess ill find out soon

No offense to you personally, but that's the biggest load of poop I've ever heard! He doesn't have to give anyone else anything, let alone it be of equal value.

lol true but the most I've ever gottin from him for christmas is like a 10 dollar ornament

ok, lets get back to my question, is it a good truck, fast, strong, takes small jumps well, I'm not gonna sell it on ebay, i think he'd like to see it run as well as i

ok he said he wants 250 for it. thats for the kit itself and the .21 engine. good deal?

Lol, he should give it to you for free, what's he going to do with it anyway?

No way! That's a rip off, IMHO. $250.00 for a rig that isn't in production any longer, thereby guaranteeing a lack of readily available parts?

No offense to your Uncle, but let him sit on it.

man, i dont know, i want it but i dont want it, i guess what I'm trying to say is i dont have $500 to spend on a new savage so half that sounds better even if it isnt in production anymore

Look, I have both. The USA-1 is a nice truck, but it will not be as fast as a Savage and you cannot make it faster because there are no hop-ups for it. You are stuck with the stock gearing; there are no alternate spur gears or two-speed transmissions and the like.

Yes, it is durable, but it is not indestructible! First time you snap an A-arm, bulkhead or similar, you're done, my man! It's off to eBay in the hopes someone has just that one part. I snapped an axle carrier on mine and ended up having to buy a USA-1 roller to get just that part.

My point is this, you're half-way to a Savage (actually, you've got a Savage if you buy used) and parts and hop-ups are readily available and will be for awhile.

Seriously, unless your Uncle is willing to come down to, say, $100.00 for the kit and engine, I'd just pass.

If you are buying the kit to build a shelf queen, then that is a decent price IMO.

If you are buying it as a runner, then you better listen to what Monkey is saying.
