I started looking at the part bags for my 1/10 Associated Hoonicorn kit. It looks like the pivot balls are all plastic. The shock bodies are aluminum, but the rest is plastic.

This is my first on-road car. Should the pivot balls and shock caps/bottoms be upgraded to metal? I've only owned offroad rifs up to this point. Any other beginner tips would be greatly appreciated. Just trying to get my path set before I start a build thread.

I have three on road cars, never thought about aluminum or metal pivot balls. I would think plastic is fine. I've never ran metal ones in my off road bashers either. They wear off road, replace as needed. If they are really loose fitting I might consider it, like the M2C aftermarket delrin shock bushings for Arrma shocks.
My Ecto pivot balls are kinda loose out of the box. I could see metal ones there, but then the dirt could wear them quickly.
My bet on road is fine, save the weight, unless the play is severe.

Plastic balls are fine. Are they black or white?
White could be delrin but so could black. Either way roll with it. There is no need for aluminum or brass bawlz in your case.

Had a dude over on the RTR forum try to get into it with me over those because he believed that the plastic balls we’re stronger, more durable, and last longer than steel or hard ano’d aluminum balls… 🙄😂

Like @Doom! said; run em until they give you an issue-then replace em with steel or aluminum imo..

What about the plastic shock bits? I'm assuming the plastic will hold up because those shocks are TINY.
I haven’t personally heard of the asphalt bashers having any problems with theirs-but the 14B/T/MT crowd has.. TA makes proper aluminum caps for those I know, maybe they do for the 1/10 stuff as well. If they don’t-Avid RC does for the 1/10 buggy platforms for sure.

The Factory Team ones are the same as the Element Enduro, but it would be almost $80 for all 4 shocks.

I'm getting nervous... what if I really like it? They make a 1/14 and a 1/7 version that I would have to have. I'm curious to see what motor I will be able to fit... I have a Reedy Sonic 8.0t and a HW 4300kv... I did order some metal diff cross pins.

I'd have to have aluminum pivot balls on hand to replace as needed. All depends on pivot ball design and usage. Just another area of an RC to save money/more profit. Having pulled the shocks off an on-road basher RC (just one time) and have this happen...

🤮 ... was enough for me to see the direction I needed to go.
