My car made a clunking noise every now and again when I hit bumps and it was due for some maintenance any way. I figured since I had 122,000 miles on it that I was going to overhaul the front end. I ordered just about everything (upper control arms, lower ball joints, radius arm bushing's inner and outer tie rod's ECT). But it figures the one thing I didn't get was the Dam springs. The funny thing is when I worked full time as a mechanic I had to have worked on over a thousand T-Birds and cougar's and I never seen a broken spring on one. O well. :hammer:

thats kinda wierd to brake a spring. but stranger things have happened. I've snapped leaf speings but it was my fault. it does figure its the one thing you wouldnt get though lol. good luck with it!

I already replaced them last weekend; I just hate having to go to a fuzzy dice and steering wheel cover store on a Sunday to buy parts. LOL

My wifes car has a periodic clunk to it when your turning or hitting bumps. I checked it out last year and her sway bar connecter bolt is broke.

She only puts maybe 3K a year on that car, so I've been ignoring it...

olds, just take the whole thing off before the other bolts break!!!

At least it wasn't a older car Clindt lol you would have and instant lowrider. Luckly you have the strut to keep it from popping all the way out. I was messing around in my Corrola in the snow doing power slides pulling the e brake lol and I popped the spring out of the tower and it was beating up against the strut. And man that thing was making lots of clunking noises go figure lmao!

be careful when you change the other side, those cars are known for having VERY strong springs. so much so that I've been in shops that refused to change them because thier spring compressors (wall mounted) werent rated for it.

I changed both sides and I have a MAC spring compressor. I would never just change one side and neither should anybody else.

well the 1 side was broken, wasn't it? so that spring came off easy. i was cautioning about changing the opposite side with the good spring.

I know what you mean about the springs. I had a runaway spring one time. It just missed everything in the shop. After that I bought a good spring compressor and I haven’t had a problem with that for about 10 years so far. Knock on wood lol. Eventually I will have to replace the rear springs. Now my car look's like I have my Ex wife in the trunk because of the amount of sag from 122,000.
