How are the brakes going to be actuated? I wasn't sure from the pics if those were going to be real or show discs......that is SOOOOOOPER SAH-WEEET!!!!! so how much to buy one of your custom monsters man.....

Ever heard the phrase, "....if ya hafta ask........!"

The brakes will be cable operated, via servo. After searching the internet for 1/5 or 1/6 brake cables and their prices, I decided to make my own...AND they are a lot cheaper!

won't having one tank with two engines be a problem?

How will it cause a problem?

it could cause problems with only 1 of the engines running. due to the fuel pressure system (pipes) the pressure from the one running engine will follow the path of least resistance and just go right out the pressure line for the second engines pipe and/or pump fuel into the non-running engines carb.

this is just in theory, feel free to prove me wrong. you could also run one of the savage "truckzilla" tanks that is one fuel tank divided specifically for duel engines.

Jack, how many hours do you have into this truck, or how many do you estimate you will have when your done. also are you making your own gears for the drivetrain (diffs and gearbox) or using off the shelf stuff and making your parts to fit?

actually I remember "you never Know unless....."
and beleive me it's not if I can"
it's "do I really want to?"

but w/ an answer like that....I get the impression that I don't want to......LOL.....that's one beastly machine man...I want pics when the brakes are done....that thing will just flip on it's lid......

I've thought about that and you're right about the pressure taking the path of least resistance, that's why they make check valves. Because these engines are really big, (they rival the 70 that's in PIE WAGON in physical size!), it would seem that I'm leaning toward making an aluminum tank as well, somewhere in the 300cc range and maybe split it into 2 compartments.

As for the amount of hours "into" this truck? Dunno. I really don't care about the hours, after all, it's a hobby. If I was "on-the-clock", I'd be concerned about the hours.

As for the gears, those I'll buy and build around.

Let me start off by saying that I've already been offered $5,000 for PIE WAGON and turned it down. Why? it's not for sale. But, I know what you're thinking, "Every man has his price," and that may be true, but, as I type this, PIE WAGON is not for sale. However, if you're interested in a custom built truck to your specs, email me.

In response to the last part of your statement, no, it won't flip on it's lid(!). Ever heard of ABS? The front will have a form of ABS to prevent such a thing. I'm way ahead of ya, Plaidfish.

Thanks, GADawgs33

jack, i was only curious about hours because there are a few machinists on this site. I'm one of them, so of course I'm curious of how much time you have in it. its a nice truck, i never considered building a MT chassis before. I've pondered stuff like hovercrafts, and heli's. but for some reason never thought of a MT. your is inspiring though.

yes man keep those pics coming i love that thing it is very nice i noticed the disc brakes and then on down as i was reading you confirmed my thoughts so cherish this cuz rolex knows i dont have many thought to throw around cuz my brain is lack gear oil or some thing cuz it smokes alot when i think lmao

Ironic, isn't it, CorradoPsi? You're a machinist...and I'm not! And I'll bet apples to navy beans that you have access to tools, tooling & equipment I only dream about! So wutchu waitin' for?? With hovercrafts & helis, certain things have to stay the same and remain constant; not so with monster trucks and you have more latitude to be, not only creative & ingeneous, but functional as well. As far as I know, the only law of physics that applies to monster trucks is gravity.

I like your way of thinking jack... I have a mill I think I need to put my brain to some good use

your right i do, but when I'm around that equipment, I'm on the clock. so I'm making parts that pay the bills instead of stuff that gives me thrills. psunitro (jeff) is also a machinist and where he works has more leaway with what he can get away with on the clock. it will definately be something i keep in the back of my mind though should the opportunity arise. keep on with the good work, and if you have any questions about setups for cuts or anything similar dont be afraid to shoot jeff or i a PM. though it looks as if you got things pretty much under control.

Well, let's get on the stick, Zandor! This hobby needs creative people with a mill & lathe.

Where were you guys a couple or threee years ago? I've got 2 or 3 small trays of parts that were...fubar'd, mainly due to poor planning. Machining is the easy part; it's the planning that can be an SOB!!

Maybe you can use the machines after hours? Nah, what was I thinking? Come Miller-time, you probably wanna just get the hell out of there, period.

While I've got you here, what's your impression of the CEN 3-speed trans, 3rd generation? The reason that I ask is that I just bought one for $69, complete, brand new, in the box. I do know that the plastic housing will have to go, in favor of an aluminum housing. Any insight on this trans?

Tho, it's still in it's rough state, here's a mock-up pic of the left front caliper. Very smooth action, but, the actuator cam needs to be resized, as the throw is way too short, which would cause lock-up.

Sweet!!!

I know 1/5 or 1/4 on-road cars have actual disk brakes, maybe you can get some ideas by looking at those.

I've seen the FG 1/5 scale mech brakes and I'm sure they work fine. What I didn't like about them is that only 1 brake pad actually moves toward the other, creating a "squish" effect. With my design, the inboard pad moves outward and the outboard pad is drawn inward, creating an even "sandwich" or clamping effect.

just a suggestion jack, if you make a floating rotor, you can simplify your caliper by making only 1 pad move.

yeah, you're right, but, my rotors and hubs are one piece, besides, I'm not a big fan of floating discs, unless there's no otherway. Don't get me wrong, floating discs have their place, only not here. 'nother reason, is the calipers are already made. 'nother reason is realism & efficiency of having both pads move.

good stuff. got any more pics for us? how about the engines? huh, huh, i wanna see some big blocks!
