XMAS mini t wont' run

hi, I'm new here, and I need help
My son got a new Losi mini t 1/18 for
xmas, it ran fine for about 5 minutes, then died, the tires would
turn, but the truck won't go. Tried it again, it does nothing. tires don't move or anything. He has brand new AA freshly charged rechargeable batteries in it. He didn't bring it in the rain or crash it, or throw it down the stairs there's nothing stuck in the wheels either I checked. It's clear.
Someone advised me to reset the ESC. I can't find out how to do that anywhere including the manual.
Can someone please give me advise. Do you think it's the ESC or something else? Do you think it would be all good if I bought a losi battery pack ?
Please help. My son is so upset about this.

Well if it is brand new and you purchased it locally, I would take it back to the point of purchase and see if they will make it right.

Sounds like the batteries are dead.
