No I didn't misunderstand this. Its only if it was a faulty unit. Its still under investigation. This could trigger a recall

they may want to pay him off...bill gates has had a strong(arm) policy of paying people to just go away doesn't he?

I am with you guys thinking that they wouldn't give away ANY money they don't have to, epecially with the problem this large on their hands it would open up the floodgates of assuming at least a lil liability. But if they are giving him cash and an X-Box, it could be extenuating circumstances because it caught his house on fire.

Honestly, you will be lucky to just get a replacement unit.

If you even popped the top on the unit once, even after the incident, you can kiss your replacement good bye. This may also be the case if you kept it in an area that gets so much dust that it clogged all the venting on the unit.

Good luck.

Yeap best of luck to you, I really hope that MS does the right thing and takes care of you, but when you have a company that big you can do what you want, because even if you sued them, they have the money to drag it out so long that you could spend the rest of your life spending all your money on the court process and atorneys over a 500 x-box.

Ouch. that sucks. I missed that part of the thread, my bad. Still, I don't know. A company will always look after their best interest first and if they can find a way to point the finger at him they will do it.

Hey guys. They have come to the conclusion that it was a faulty unit. Apperantly it overheated due to 1 fan craping out. Then a wire that was "not installed properly" and was laying on the heat sink melted and that caused the fire. They are sending me a new one. As of right now it is in TN and $500 is pending transfer into my account.

I'm impressed. A replacement would be expected. But a full refund is above and beyond. Microsoft certainly has the reputation as a predatory company, but this is really positive service. Good for you.

Sweet, what are you going to buy with the money? Besides paint?

I'm gonna probably preorder GTA IV special edition and then spend most of it on parts. And put the rest in my savings for my next vehicle

Man I'm so glad to hear that. I'm impressed makes me think at least a lil better about the big company. Now I'm going to light my 360 on fire and hope for the money to go towards a platinum Revo.
