Alriiiiiiiiight…. I’m back.. like a vertebrae…

Mine is a straight dumpsterfire currently, with vehicles scattered across the room, and wheels, and tires EVERYWHERE, so these older shots will have to do for the time being… Been some upgrades/changes since these were taken, but you get the idea.. It’s a where I wrench, AND where I chill, and dig on some tunes, get RC idea’s, do some paintwork, take over the world, etc.. So it’s gotta be functional, but clean as well.. Just how I am..

Also, it is worth mentioning that I am EXTREMELY tight on space, and this room is TINY… So less is more for sure, and if I can do it-anyone can.. I do realize some can’t dedicate an entire room to RC’s, I’m just saying this one is hella small, and with the “less is more” attitude, and some reasonable planning, it doesn’t look bad at all space-wise, and is not the least bit cramped.. And those that’ve followed pretty much ANY of my threads/posts, know that a LOT of work gets pumped out of here lol..

Thanks brother! It’s gotten some upgrades/additions since those pics, but it’s always a work in progress, that I try to constantly improve upon.. My next upgrades require 3d printing lol, and are much needed..

I've got a plan for storing my RCs that I haven't implemented yet, so currently they just sit in the floor, but eventually I'll get around to building it. Everything else though is pretty squared away.

We love spending other people's money.

You will probably want a workbench, light, power and some sort small parts storage. It's always a work in progress and ever evolving.

A bit about my setup.

Workbench
I would show you my actual bench but it's mess and you can't really see it under all the junk. I have an electronics bench in the garage. It's my general purpose work bench too.

It looks similar this but only has one shelf. During the dot-com bust they were everywhere and free. My buddy had like six so he hooked me up. It's huge and sturdy enough to can park a car on it.

If you have any electronic or office furniture resellers near you they might have one for a reasonable price. Or check Craigs list. This one is $125.

On top of that I have large piece of cardboard to protect the top and a silicone work mat. I highly recommend something like this. It's fairly inexpensive, great for soldering, has little pockets for screws and cleans up with Simple Green.

Power
A good power strip is a must. Something long enough to spread out the cords and mountable to keep it out of the way. This one is on Craigslist for $20.

Solder Station
Get a good one. I'm using a Hakko FX-888D. It's very nice and also completely overkill. It was the best choice at the time, like 15 years ago. HomeDepot has a Weller Station for $45 and on paper it looks decent on paper. Something with at least 60W and adjustable temp is good.

There is the HarborFreight one and Amazon specials too, but I have no experience with them. Perhaps other's can comment.

MultiMeter
These are handy. You can buy Fluke if you want, but it's an industrial grade instrument and not required for us. Bu if it works for you go for it.

For this hobby the HarborFreight one will work most of the time. If you want something a bit nicer, I would look at Klein tools sold at ACE, HD and Lowes. Or check Amazon.

Work Light
Most of us have a few miles on us and find that we just can see $hit these days. To assist with that, I use a magnifying light from Amazon. There are HarborFreight options and someone was using a head mounted light/magnifier too.

RC Tools
Battery checker, Battery charger, hex drivers, pliers, tweezers, electronics picks, small files, Dremel, wire strippers, hand torch, etc..

I would get some quality stuff for the first three. HF works for the rest.

What I Need
What I don't have is a desktop tool organizer. My tools are in some acrylic trays. It works but it's not very organized and looks like a bucket of stuff. Which it is.

Laugh all you want, but that is a Herman Miller Mira chair, and it's the most comfortable chair I've ever sat in. The bare-bones version of these were $850 and depending on options could go up in to the $1300+ range. With all the adjustments and stuff you can do to them, it's like sitting in a BMW or something. We have these at work, but I ain't paying that much for a chair, so I bought mine used from one of those places online that resells office furniture for $425. If you buy them new, they come with 12 year warranties and onsite repair. The one I have at work is almost 17 years old and still going strong.

It does look like a laundry basket, though.
