You have to post some Optima pics when it’s all set. I’d love to see that.
I managed to delaminate the camera lens on my phone so none of the pics are clear. I'll try to get some pics and start a build thread or 3.
As much as I know about these cars, building it has still been a challenge!

Is this an original Optima Mid from the 80’s?
Yes. All my Kyosho stuff is old.
I am building this one to actually put on a track and race. This one will prob stay SWB. I've been building it with Koswork parts. Kosworks was also around 30 years ago, building parts for Kyosho! 😎

Short Wheel Base. Thats the original Mid chassis.
LWB is about 1" longer.
Length adds stability in straightaways but in the Optima's case, could hurt its cornering ability too.
I intend to build a LWB Mid to run as well.
LWB JG graphite conversion is what I ran years ago.

Sounds great. And you live near an RC track? Indoor or outdoor?

My indoor track is about 1hr south. Its close to a few other stores I go to so its not terrible I guess. This one is carpet.
Theres one about 1hr north that I haven't been to yet but looks good too.
The have an on road track. I'm not sure about a buggy track there though.
I have a Kyosho TF2 R4 of similar vintage that I'd like to run there.
If I ever get good at driving, I have a Tamiya F1 car that I'd LOVE to run too!!!

I wish there were more tracks, closer too!

We may have discussed this already but I can’t remember : if I were to put Proline Street Fighter tires on my MT10 , I’ll prob lose @ an inch in ground clearance , correct? And would I need to change the gearing? Just looking at some more street-friendly tire options.

Street Fighters (~4.2") are about a half inch smaller in diameter than the stock Rival tires (~4.6"), which is about 10% smaller, so maybe go up one or two teeth to start.

You can buy a temp gun to record you current motor and esc temps.
Monitor the temp along with your gear changes and performance.
You'll have it dialed in quickly I'm sure.

Those tires are so sick!!! 😍😍😍

Ok I’ll look at temp guns tonight. The Mashers are awesome tires and have great grip on grass but I feel pavement would chew up that tread pretty fast. I haven’t even used the stock tires yet. They’re just sitting on the shelf. Maybe I’ll come across a tire that is good on pavement as well a grass. I really like the tread pattern on the Traxxas Anaconda tires.

The anacondas LOOK so nice!!!
The ones on the Jato are nice and low profile.
Not much ballooning but they wore quickly on pavement.
Low sidewalls also mean less rubber for rough terrain.
Not sure how your grass is. 🤣
The Jato was ok in grass but spike tires were night and day improvement over Annaconda for grassy traction.
I still like Anacondas but the prices seem steep compared to other options.
They LOOK GOOD on some "hot rodded" builds and theres no denying that! 😍😍😍

For sure. I saw a Typhon that had street tires and the thing looked evil and awesome. I believe it was an on-road setup. I can’t remember which site I saw it on. Might have been here somewhere.

Damn you to hell 😂 I’m gonna hold off on getting a buggy until after Xmas , I think. With the recent addition to our family, I wanna make sure everyone has plenty of presents. My own obsessions can wait until January. And the MT10 will certainly keep me occupied in the meantime.

I’m still leaning toward Tekno. I have been getting tons of emails from Traxxas , Amain and all kinds of other RC sites with black Friday sales starting early. It’s very tempting. And I do like the look of that Typhon. But everyone seems to love Tekno. I was thinking about getting the truggy but now I think I might want the buggy. To be honest, I’d be thrilled with either one. I just wanna be able to pick my own electronics and make it the way I want it.

You definitely better off with the tekno 😁

The best deal to be had on a Tekno buggy, or truggy will be when @FRC Pete kicks off the Black Friday sale for sure.. The new buggy (2.2) has been out for a few months now, and the new truggy (2.2) was released a few days ago. 🤙🍻
