They're not good for grass but awesome for pretty much anything else. How are 1/8 buggies for bashing? Like the Typhon? It looks nice. Or are they mainly for racing?
The only connection is that Horizon Hobbies bought out Losi and Arrma. Not to mention most of the other brands in the industry. Really killed the competition/innovation in the hobbyI was looking at the TLR tuned version and it’s impressive. So Losi is associated with Arrma?
I’m all about Rustler 4x4 Ult but the Typhon TLR looks nice too. They're not good for grass but awesome for pretty much anything else.

I dont own one of those. I prefer 1/8 scale MTs over 1/10 scale MTs.I’m all about Rustler 4x4 Ult but the Typhon TLR looks nice too.
How’s that Associated Rival MT10?
I get that. Is the X-Maxx considered 1/8?I dont own one of those. I prefer 1/8 scale MTs over 1/10 scale MTs.
I want to say it's around 1/6 scale.I get that. Is the X-Maxx considered 1/8?
X-MAXX is pretty much a 1/5 scale. People want to call it a 1/6 scale, but I've compared the dimensions with other 5th scales out there, and it's basically the same size. Typhon is 1/8 scale, I believe. Not that I’m interested only in 1/10 scale , are there any other obvious choices in that size other than Traxxas that I should be looking at for good bashers? Arrma has some cool ones. Not sure if the Typhon is 1/10 or 1/8 scale.
The Typhon is a 1/8 buggy. A 1/8 buggy is roughly the size of a 1/10 truck, though much beefier in the drivetrain. The Typhon is a tank of a buggy, heavy and very durable. As others have said, a 1/8 buggy sits low to the ground, similar to a 1/10 ST, such as the Rustler. There are many who "truggify" the Typhon by putting larger tires on them. Not that I’m interested only in 1/10 scale , are there any other obvious choices in that size other than Traxxas that I should be looking at for good bashers? I agree, X-Maxx, XRT, K8, O8 are all close enough in dimensions to me to call 1/5. Though there are purists out there that insist they aren't "true" 1/5. Okay. I think if I were going to start over with large scale, I'd grab an XRT. The X-Maxx has been great to me, as has the K8, but the XRT seems to offer the best of both for my use. Lightweight, which means it doesn't need 10ah batteries to get decent run time, or a soda can sized motor to go fast..X-MAXX is pretty much a 1/5 scale. People want to call it a 1/6 scale, but I've compared the dimensions with other 5th scales out there, and it's basically the same size. Typhon is 1/8 scale, I believe.
As far as other 1/10 scales, it just depends on what surface you plan on running on. There are a lot of manufacturers out there that make nice rigs. Tekno, Losi and associated just to name a couple off the top of my head.
start building the Tekno next month
AWESOME!!!You guys are the best. Always helpful. And I think I’m def gonna get a Tekno kit sooner rather than later. I’ll get the Rustler (or whatever I decide on) in a few days but maybe I’ll start building the Tekno next month. Xmas seems too far off and I don’t wanna wait. Gonna be a big boy and build it myself
Is it the ET48 2.0 that I should get?
Do I need to pick the motor and electronics right away or doesn’t it matter?
And I saw a Serpent RTR truggy. Any good?
Definitely. Thanks for the heads up@Littlemotor has hinted of Black Friday sales here…

Might be worth the wait for a kit an extra month
You will be busy running your other trucks anyways![]()
I'd be weary of that Serpent RTR, I know the price is right, but a quick search for parts shows most parts for it as discontinued on Amain..You guys are the best. Always helpful. GotchaAWESOME!!!
2x @Littlemotor !!!
He seems to be our resident Tekno guru!
I'm glad you decided to take the plunge and go with a kit!!! Your challenges will be rewarded with a build like this.
Be sure to ACTUALLY READ the manual and go slowly.
Don't skimp on things like loktite and green slime during assembly and you WILL love your new build!
Good to know. I had never heard of them before. Just looked cool.I'd be weary of that Serpent RTR, I know the price is right, but a quick search for parts shows most parts for it as discontinued on Amain..
I downloaded the manual for it from Amain, then started searching individual parts.. seems most are only available from Serpent directly. I don't think that sounds good.
However, Serpent does have legit race rigs, but the price is top level.. I'd stick with a more popular brand myself. Tekno is a great example, good parts support life/availability.. the others, such as Mugen, Xray, Kyosho are generally either more expensive and/or harder to source. Just my opinions of course.
Two of them here, been great. Never raced, but whenever I drive mine I feel like a winner!!Yeah, I think you guys are gonna LOVE TEKNO R/C!!!
Ppl who race love them and no one "hates" the brand. Parts coverage seems good if and when you need it so yeah!
Solid choice!!!
doesn't matter.Do I need to pick the motor and electronics right away or doesn’t it matter?
Serpents race level rigs are awesome. I have no idea about their RTR. I have their SRX8T-E and its a pretty awesome Truggy. Very high quality. I need to get some electronics back in this thing, I just don't run it that often anymore. And I saw a Serpent RTR truggy. Any good?
