Fairly new flyer...I don't mind a little wind when I'm out flying, makes it more immersive in my eye...but I also curse the wind when I see my treetops out back blowing around and I'm second guessing going to the local airfield.

How do you fellow RC flyers view wind?

When is it "too much"?

Have not flown in 25 years.
But on days with steady wind same direction as runway, I would try to land with low enough airspeed that the Eagle would be moving backward relative to the asphalt. I could do it until it got down to about 6 feet from ground then it would stall :-(

I think the epoxy in that plane that fixed dozens of crashes weighed more than the engine :-)

I've flown in some decent wind already in my short flying career...but I guess it's hard for me to gauge, when I'm just sitting at home watching the wind blow...when is it a waste of my time to pack my stuff up and go to the airfield to fly.

I hate the wind! It ruins all of my fun: rc (flying & boating); shooting(airguns, firearms, archery); kayaking; fishing; hunting; cornhole; golfing; biking; running; camping; grilling; spectating sports; snow removal; leaf blowing; outdoor parties; enjoying my firepit.
Hate it!!!!

Typically when it gets over 10mph I start questoning it. I have flown in 25 mph winds but don't advise it. Sometimes wind can be fun because you can throttle off and fly it like a kite. Really depends what you plan on flying and how much risk your willing to take.

Bad flying conditions is what made me by a surface rc, so I had something to play with when I couldn't fly.

It's been 10 - 15 mph with heavier gusts here the last two days...hoping it dies down a little tomorrow to get some time in before a week of rain

Eh wind... it blows!
I looked damned good in it when I used to have hair though! 😎
Just a slight breeze is all it takes to ruin my mini drone fights.
I think it could be a fun challenge to fly a more competent drone in wind so I can get better at flying in bad conditions so maybe not all bad???

Other than that no problem. 🤣

I've had Manny (DJI Mini 4 Pro) up in winds close to 30mph at the beach. It handled it fine, and the video was still super stable and nice. It did tell me the return to home function would not work though, and it chews through battery much faster.

Do you fly it with any stabilization assists in that strong of a wind?

If I'm filming I'm in either cine or normal mode, otherwise I'm always in sport mode to cover ground quickly. He'll do 35mph in sport mode at full tilt.

Cine and normal mode both have the sensors for obstacle avoidance, etc. As far as stabilization, it's a very solid and stable platform, but doesn't have anything like "safe" mode or AS3X onboard. It's not needed though, you'd have to either hit something or try to crash it as it's tuned for photography and videography and not sporty flying.

The past 4 years have been pretty windy for me. 5mph dont bug me, above it then I get white knuckles. I fly Micros and big boys. Micros dont like winds above 5 mph. Landing a micro in wind is funny, it looks like a bird taking the elevator to the 1st floor.

Wind doesn`t bother me much when I`m flying. Helicopters are not affected as much by it, as planes are. When the wind is too strong to be fun to fly in, I just practice doing auto rotations.
I don't know how you helicopter folks do it...I've yet to figure out my 230S lol
