Why would anyone want a Spektrum Android radio?

A radio that works through an Oculus would be cool. Put a gopro in inside the body, put on the oculus, and it's like you are actually driving it... oh wait, I did that for real on my way to work today

Basically the same on how fpv drones work 🤷‍♂️

These are all very interesting and comical answers. Thanks for some perspective.
I understand updates. A steep price to pay imo for not having to use a cable and programer that I already own.
As far as Google goes, 2 thoughts.
Google makes their money by collecting information about its users and then selling tgat info to those who advertise with them. This is not a secret. They openly admit to collecting the info. We agree to that in a hidden page in an end user agreement. We know how this works. Soon, this will have a camera that can't be shut off, gps, bluetooth and nfc. ALL of those things can be and ARE used to spy on all of us.
These ARE the "features" forced upon us by cell phone manufactures and carriers.
I am VERY curious to know what required permissions will be for these "featured groundbreaking apps".
I am not doing this. THEY have already done this in almost every aspect of our livves. Fridges (without updates, yes sell yours!) water heaters, phones and computers too all have wifi wgich is VERY capable of spying on us too.
I am simply trying to point out that this is a VERY slippery slope. I am not willing to pay extra to be monitored by a radio that will most likely stop getting updates and need replaced in 5? years.
Yes this is my choice.
The second part of my issue with Google is a simple econimic one.
I'd bet 100% of us here fall below the 3% ultra rich line??? ( The percentage doesn't reay matter as long as you know what side of the line you're on)
Google is on the other side of that line.
While I watch our workforce devalued, our leaders act like children on our dimes, I'm choosing to draw a line with these thieves getting richer on MY r/c time while making us ALL poorer at the same time.
I'm not trying to convince ANYONE to follow me EVER! I am simply trying to give you all MY perspective now, as I have asked for yours.
I will still be passing on this tech.
Thank you all for the answers so far!

R/C work. At least its an honest job! You go kid!!!

But none of those can you do all that on the radio.

Imagine this...
You open up a game on the controller which is integrated with Google Earth. Find a local track, and the game allows you to practice driving various RC cars around the track on screen 😉
Posted at 4:19... did you start early???

Thats a fair concern too. I wonder if Spektrum plans to "upgrade" receivers to be compatible with new features. If not now, maybe with the next product line.
I hope all the old stuff won't be "obsolete" soon.
This radio could very well be the start of a "revolution" of sorts.

So with all the good ppl here still reading along... I have a DX4C that is brand new, out of the box, about 3 months ago.
Its got a fair amount of knobs and adjustments and such. I don't hate it but it feels slow and lanky.
I don't feel like it would be great at a track.
Does anyone have one of these radios who feels otherwise? Am I missing adjustments for a lag time at throttle?
I think the steering feels awkward but I am taking that due to my inexperience with it still. I think I could learn to like the steering with more time.

Does anyone think these new line of Spektrum radios will be competitive/price at the track?

I am planning to head back to the track and am interested in what you all recommend. Not jumping right this second to buy.
1/10 scale indoor carpet. I'm not really a newb here but I'm clearly out of the game. I want something I can grow into as I get better racing again.
Budget is going to be $300ish. If someone can tell me why I need more, the budget might flex.
I can't be clearer about this part though... please, no aps to download etc.

Thanks again folks!

imo, no. If it have lower frame rates and the radio is very responsive, maybe. But, do you like how the radio is in your hands? Thats the big thing if your wanting to race. Ie trigger / steering wheel, and grip on the handle. Most higher end radios (flysky nb4 too) have tension adjustments for the trigger and wheel.

Flysky NB4+. 300 bucks even. 330 bucks (extra 30 if you want an extra receiver) Does not require any apps.

Gotcha. Thanks David.

***I thought I would say this, because I don't always get my points across clearly.
My issues involving this radio go as deep as Google at this point. I feel like they strong arm their way into the picture (radio in this case). Its like dealing with the mob, imo. They told me for years that I couldn't buy a phone without a camera, bloatware etc (not availible) while simultaniously telling me that no meer mortal could ever afford a phone with so many wonderful features such as their cameras with no off buttons. THIS is why they think its "OUR" phone.
This logic, if anyone follows it, is that of a thief, crook, hence my issue. Google is not your friend, nor mine.
They have other policy issues that don't belong in this post imo.
Please watch them folks.

Spektrum isn't a villian in my eyes just yet. (Time and ap's permissions might change that though)
We'll see if Spektrum has just borrowed the existing platform which indeed does make good sense. It may go much deeper too.
I own their products and serve me well to mess around with, bash etc. They serve a purpose. I have no problem with them earning a buck off of us, the hobby etc.
Equally any other honestly earned profit is just fine. I feel like I wasn't clear about that and I didn't mean for it to sound otherwise but maybe did.
This wasn't meant to be an offensive post. (Other than to Google perhaps)

Is the Flysky good for multi use?
I have a lot of cars. Most all 2 or 3 channel electric and nitro.
I will likely be building, restoring, occasionally running.
Can this radio save a bunch of kits?
I see a lot of Crawlers and Crawler love.
I know NADA about them though... Is this a good Crawler radio as well or am I looking for too much flexibility from a single radio here?

Yea. I believe the new plus version has 20 model memory.

Yep. thats fine. Receivers that come with it are 4 channels.

Sure can :)

Ehh. Someone else might have to pop in. I believe the NB4 can do 8 channels? If so, you'll just need to hook it up to a more channel receiver if you want to control LEDs, winches or micro servos for 2speed/diff locks. @Hammer Down ? @Addict Rc ? @bill_delong ?

This is good news! I have only started to read up on this radio but it looks like it has a ton of features.
I read that this system works with hobbywing gear? Does that actually help? Like is your racing enhanced by staying with xerun or would a tekin (for instance) work well also?
I feel like I need to watch some videos on this thing. The comments are usually more informative than the videos I watch! Lol!
8 channels on Flysky site. So I might "outgrow" this if I get into crawling but it seems pretty flexible otherwise.
Hmmmm...

Not really sure. I was already using hobbywing before I switched to the nb4, and plus I been running hobbywing since I got into RC so can't really comment. But @bill_delong can. Ideally any rx/tx can work with any esc and motor so. 🤷‍♂️

Well, MSM is using it. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah. I have read up on the NB4+. It seems like a no-brainer really. I think it will be my next system.
It I don't love it, I will be able tolearn enough with it to be able to pick out my big $ radio whenever i feel like I need a step up.
