Why does the rear end on my modified granite get like in a bind or over heats and gets too hot and locks up? Could it be the bearings maybe?

I think you got a good inclination with what's going on. You'll soon find the root of the problem once you take the motor out of the equation. Moving the wheels/driveline by hand will be much easier to feel where the binding issue is.

Welcome to RCTALK.COM!!! 😁
Bearings could cause binding. A bearing in my Granite went bad and caused heat and binding in one of my hub carriers.

As @RustyUs mentioned, pull the truck apart and inspect each part as you go.

You said its modified. How is it modified?
