My Neighbor of 4 years died on Thursday, August 27th with a freak accident at work. He worked for Bill-Co, A forklift company, as a mechanic. Thursday he was having issues with getting a part underneath one and a friend at work thought it would be okay to bring another working forklift over and lift the one Mike had been working on up with it. As Mike was getting the part on this forklift, the hydraulic lines broke and the full forklift fell on top of him, Killing him instantly.

Mike left behind his Wife, Heather, and his son, Jeb, who is was only 5 days from his 5th Birthday. Also His parents and his many Brothers and Sisters, Mom and Dad.

He was a great guy always smiling and always having a good time and cared for his kid more then you can imagine. Him and my Dad became good friends as well as I did. I remember talking to him just the night before about the Chevy Blazer i was going to buy and was talking about having him help me fix it up a little. He was always willing to help anyone in need and was always there when you needed him. He will be forever missed. It's ashame on how young he died, at only 39

His Obituary

I put my heart out to his family and friends. Many people die everyday but I look at it as they have proved their point to God and now they are worthy of being in heaven. Don't get me wrong though, When someone close to you dies it is never easy to "get over it."

I'm sorry for his family and you losing a friend, but there's no short cuts in safety! He should have known to put some solid support under it before he crawled under.

That was the first thing my dad said when we found out. He, my dad, as well as two other people in my neighborhood are all heavy equipment mechanics so it has kinda put a scare through out neighborhood, but has made a lot of people realize how quick something can happen and that you should never take shortcuts in safety.

Personally I think forklift safety should require a little more training then it does. It took me about an hour to watch a video and take a 10 question test to be OHSA certified on the lift truck I drove at work. When you drive something that weighs close to 10,000 pounds empty, runs on propane, and has 4 foot "spears" on it its nothing to mess around with. My thoughts and prayers go out to mike and his family as well as the guy that thought it would be a good idea to lift up the forklift.

That really sucks. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and his family. I do have to agree with an earlier post though. Safety, safety, safety. I would'nt be surprised if an OSHA person shows up and investigates. Those guys are vicious. I've had the unfortunate privilage of being on a job site and they appear out of thin air. Worse thing is they were sitting down the road "observing" for about an hour. When they took off they left behind a $10,000 fine.

Well today we got a call from my uncle who is just 43, He had went in for a series of tests a couple of weeks ago and just got diagnosed with Cancer. He has Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma phase 4B. It's pretty much as bad as it can get without him dieing. Pretty much the doctor said he won't be here for Christmas this year. He has over 30 tumors over his body.
