They have some that have demo disks that allow you to boot into Linux without actually installing it. Give it a try that way. I think it is Ubuntu that does that.

I havent tried a linux distro in a while, but ubuntu is pretty easy. Just be prepared to do alot of reading.

they have created a version for android phones too. . i'm toyin around with the idea of trying it

I've tried it a few times. I'm not keen on their unity desktop nor their built in "adware" either.

I have it installed on a thumb drive to see if I like it.

I also installed virtual box and I run it there.

I suppose if I used it every day, I'd get used to it, but since I don't write software, having a linux machine at home would be a waste of time. I didn't really care for/understand the ubunto I installed, so when I get bored, I'll boot it up and tinker around once in a while.

iam running Ubuntu dont know the ver. my son set up several years ago. have had close to no upgrades. and it works goodnuf. any bad code that comes here doesn't seem to hurt at all. seams to be a lot of linux / Ubuntu info on the internet.

Still not convinced it's even worth the effort.

Anyone remember Dumont? They were the first TV and the only manufacturer of vacuum tubes.
Microsoft and Windows will soon fall according to all the predictions in this market since they have wasted all their time and money protecting the "Mother dog" and not producing any puppies.
Kodak fell to the digital market...
IBM made that mistake when PCs came around... Now all the ipod and cell phone companies are out to bury Gates and Microsoft.
They really blew it with Win 8, trying to make it 'look' like the other products.
Trust me. Give them time. Even Sears & Robuck lost Robuck, then K-mart bought Sears.
Well, why worry about Microsoft falling? Eventually U.S.A. will also fall to China.
You can only stay on top for a little while no matter HOW big you are.
