Ok I got my savage today. A savage 21 I had to do alitttle work but it's barely used, and had it running in an hour or so.

Anyhow me and the boys were running the dogs out of it (I love it!). I go inside to get a drink, and i hear this odd silence..I'm thinking "why did it die". Well, my son cartwheeled it right into our ditch upside down. It sucked in water and mud until it died.

I'm in the process of cleaning it out, and I took the backplate off, as soon as I did something fell out. Do any of you have any ideas? It's the little pin looking thing with the circle around it..

BTW what temp does a stock savage 21 run at? any ideas of a ball park temp ? the high, and the low side of a good general temp?

Thanks as always

Lykan that go's right in the hole in the crankshaft without that pin in the motor it will not crank over. Insert it back in there and tighten her all up and you will be good to to. Of course do that when it's all done. There is a little spring in the conrod hole there.

Congrats on the savage purchase ur gonna love it man

Make sure you spray a butt load of cleaner in there. I'd suggest wd 40 to get all the dirt out. As far as temps go there's no real set rule for a great running temp. Keep her below 300 and she should be fine. Tune her to your tastes. You can run her a little rich and maybe get a little more life out of her or run her a little lean and she'll be hotter than hell.

Wheew. I thought for a big block 270-280 was way hot. It seemed to do pretty good at right under 300. I tore it all down tonight. Tomorrow I am going to buy a few cans of brake cleaner, and a can of wd-40 for the rebuild.

We ran about 5 tanks through it tonight. I can't belive the difference. It takes abuse so much better. It also has loads of torque.

If I keep the maxx, it's getting this 21, and the savage is getting a 25. I wish engines weren't so damned expensive.. even for a stock .25 they want some dough..

Be careful using some automotive cleaners like carb and brake cleaners because they can and do melt some plastics and rubbers like the rubber boot on your throttle.

Don't be afraid to overclean either. Remember one speck of gritty dirty inside your engine can wreak havoc to the internal surfaces of your engine.

make sure the brake cleaner is non chlorinated or it will destroy the plastic and rubber.
