I've been getting my 18B ready for the upgrade to brushless. My local hobby shop has a Castle Creations 6.8 for a buck & change, and a Tekin 5.4 for around the same price I think. I really just need some feedback as to which systems have or haven't held up. Also, when properly installed and operated, what kind of a life expectancy do these things have? Thanks in advance for any help.

Out of all of the 1/18 scale rigs and 1/18 scale fans here on this site I think I've only seen a Tekin speed control once. I'm not really sure why that is but I would guess it's because CC had jump on the mini brushless scene before anybody else. Just like any new technology, whoever makes it first will enjoy the riches the most. Just like Spektrum now. Other manufacturers offer spread spectrum technology but Spektrum beat everybody to it and that's why it's the leading brand of SST now.

Castle Creations setup are awesome, I used to have one in my Mini-T a while back. It was a lot of fun but I broke stuff a lot because I was trying to run like 12 cells just to see how much power was possible. Well, it's a lot :) I actually run all of my 1/18 scales in brushed form now. It's easier on the pocketbook and they're still quick enough for my driveway :)

I am running the cc 5400 bl setup in my rc18 "B" on a 3S lipo. cycled over 20 packs through it and have never had a problem.

I use the CC 6.8 on both of my RC-18s. Stupid fast on a 7-cell NiMH pack.

I have the tekin mini rage esc and 6800kv motor on my rc18 (soon to be sold) Its fast and I haven't had any problems with it. I am also running a 3S lipo with it.

I run a CC 8000kv with their standard speedie and 3s in my 18R which is just stupid.
It is outrageous with a 2s only and i have never had a single issue with it.
Castle is good gear for the minis.

I run a 8000kv Mamba Micro Pro set up on my RC18T with a 7.2 Venom Lipo battery and it screams. My friend runs a Mongoos set up on his and its faster than mine. Either set up is great:)

i've smoked castle AND tekin stuff.

if i had to do it again i would probably go with a micro sidewinder

I've got the mamba 6800kv on my 18T and it's held up just fine. Programming through castle link sold me on it.
