I am tired of paying high prices at the hobby shop for my nitro. I dont mind supporting the local shop but my buudys and I have spent enough to start our own shop. Does any one know where to get nitro for cheap? Can you buy nitro in bulk like 55 gallon drums? Cost? I've heard of people make the own fuel. Does anyone make their own nitro? What is involved?

Do a serch on make your own fuel. There was a big discussion early in the year.

Tower hobbies sells it fairly cheap. You can buy it in bulk there too. Check it out.

yes online like a tower has good deals...the killer can be shipping there are extra costs involved with shipping nitro...but if you buy it 4 gallons at a time i think the price comes out fairly good

no i dont think you can or would want to buy nitro by the 55 gallon drum that would be a nightmare to keep condensation out of and would be just a bad bad idea

Tower doesn't charge any extra for shipping nitro. I have bought up to 3 gallons at one time from them and was only charged the basic shipping fee. I prefer to buy the quart bottles instead of the gallon bottles.

If you shop around on their site, you can also get a discount if you buy in quantity of 4. Plus, if you're a Tower member, you can even get free shipping on your nitro, as long as the total order is over $150. And finally, you can usually use one of the coupon codes on their homepage to also get a discount.

All said and done, it comes out fairly cheap.

BTW, if anyone is interested, here is a link to some Trinity 35% on sale. Normal price is $10.99 / quart. You can scoop some up for only $7.99 / quart. Not bad to cut $3 off per quart.

Normal Price ($10.99)

Sale Price ($7.99)

Just thought I would share.

I have a case of fuel on order with my hobby shop. He makes one or two orders per year. All of us regulars put in our orders and the shop owner buys extra for stocking the shop with. It's kind of a "group discount". If you talk to your LHS owner, they probably do they same thing. Buying it one gallon at a time will kill ya.

Here in Co its about the same if not a little more. I've only bought 1 quart so far I think I will keep doing that easier to store and alot cheaper.

I always buy in the gallon because I go through quarts pretty quick at the race track......

At my LHS i pay $26.99 + tax for a gallon. The only time i have bought it off the net is when i first got into the hobby. I have found that its usually just more convienient to stock up on it when I'm near a hobby shop.

The Hazmat (Hazardous Materials) fee is $30. If you ship one gallon, it's the price of the gallon, plus another $30. If you buy a hundred gallons, it's $30.
The more you get, the less the fee works out to per gallon.
There is no hazmat fee for quarts.

too bad your not from pa
there is a private dealer that makes his own fuel and sells it to hobby shops and certian companys ,its called S&W fuels ,if you drive to his house he will sell ya all you want for 13.99 a gallon and it is quality fuel i have been using it sincei got into this hobby 1 1/2 yeras ago.
just my $.02
keep that in mind to all you ppl in pa on here worth the time and effort if you getta lot of friends together and go buy a few cases
take care
