whats the diff?

ok two traxxas slash 2wd, high traction carpet, have the suspension kinda dialed in, one truck has normal fluid in the diff from factory, the other has been swapped with red and tacky. We arent happy with either one, from loss of power (slipper set right) to lifting front off the corner, what diff fluids (viscosity) are recommended for this, losing corner speed and they gain traction so i need to do something, i understand there are different opinions.

always thought traxxas trans on 2 wd were open..well mine were then I switched to a rpm trans case. then I could add diff fluid,I went with 25k associated back in my carpert days. Calandra Green Grey and then the Black.ran a tridot tire with mild foam...but I'm sure the others will disagree..

Are these with the 272r tranny? If it's the old school magnum 272 the diff isn't sealed and it will all leak out. @DavidB1126 should be able to help.

Correct. The old one is open vs the 272R is sealed. Although I haven't tried actual oil with the old one, I usually use red n tacky grease. My current setup on my slash which has the 272R I'm running 200k base with a little of 500k mixed in and seems to be working good on indoor sealed dirt. (That is associated oils too)

As for tires when I was running carpet I was running schuey mini pins. At the time I was running 50wt shock oil f/r and was way too thick as when I went to turn the inside tire dipped in and caused it to slowly turn as I couldnt go fast. Now running 35 rear and 30 front (I think) with indoor dirt it seems to be working out well. I don't have a carpet track around anymore (locally) so I try to help at my best on what worked for me.

Oh yea traction was way too high so I do remember I had to trim/cut 2 rows of pins on the front tires. Being both the outer sidewall and inner. Which did help eliminate flipping over from too much front traction. Now I know if your getting new tires atleast for carpet you should get a whole new set, not just a pair for the front or rear.

old style transmission, the red and tacky seems to much, and needs thinner, I've seen other things used like shock oil that would leak out, but there is a video on leak stoppage on these diffs which requires grinding and cutting, which I'm keeping stockish, and can not alter tires at this track

Back in the day we used to put 2 lockwashers inteween the two outpusts. Made it like a limited slip diff.

thats what I'm kinda shooting for,got a 10 year old with a lead finger on the throttle, and my truck is set up with more power unintentionally
