I Have Found That You Can Not Put A Price On This Hobby I Did Not Want To Spend ThE 450.00 On A New Tmaxx So I Purchesed One On E-bay For 200.00 And I Now Have 550.00 In To It With Purches. Dont Go Cheap Or Settle For What You Can Buy With 300.00..jim

this is all useless info.
thanks anyway.

Not that everybody is overflowing with help, but to be fair you have not provided very much information to work with. Let's start from the beginning.

There's quite a bit of stuff on the market for that amount of money. So it really depends on what exactly do you want. Your budget is fair and VERY workable. Allow me to ask you a couple questions..

1st r/c?
on-road or off-road?
Would you enjoy working on your r/c as much as running it?
Do you have a hobby shop locally?
Race or Bash?

There's a lot you can do with $300 so you really want to figure out what is best for you. Everything is a "good buy" if you enjoy it.

ok,ok, my bad.
it would be a gift so i am not 100% sure but it'd be a first electric RC (except for one at like $50 5 years ago).
it would not be for racing (except with me against my nitro car....hehehe !).

yes there is a rc car shop not too far and no, I don't think she would enjoy working that much on it - just the basic stuff - alhtough she could cuz she's smart.

Now the key point: i'd need an electric car that could somehow, at least for a short distance, compete with my nitro.

She prefers an OFF road car/truck.

Are there 2w and 4w electric cars ? (i only know nitro cars) and is there a big difference in price ? and is it very interesting/useful to get a 4w drive ?

thanks.

Alrighty Now! We're in business! Great info..

Since it's a gift you definately want something new. I'm going to suggest something in RTR form, this will get her going without the tedious project of a kit build. RTR's are also more cash economical. 4WD would be better for the simple reason that they are easier to drive.. a good way to go for a newbie r/c'er. On the other hand 4WD severely limits your options. The best choice for 4WD would be a Kyosho Lazer ZX-5 RTR. They are going for $210 at Amainhobbies.com.

So for $210 you get a quality car from a highly regarded MFR. It's Brand New, RTR, Off-road 4WD (you do still need to purchase a 6-cell battery pack, a charger, and AA's for the transmitter). The only downside is that it won't keep up with a nitro in it's stock form.. probably not even close. You could put some more performance in it so it could keep up but the problem is, even if you did it in a cost consious manner by the time you start adding everything up you're gonna be well over $300. Probably real close to $400.

In order to stay in budget your gonna have to make a sacrifice. Speed or 4WD? There are a number of cars out there in your budget range that can probably keep up with your nitro but they are almost all 2WD. Such as the VXL series of brushless cars from Traxxas... below $300

One more option that I can think of is an E-Savage from HPI. You can get them 99% RTR (need AA's I think) and they run around $340-ish. It's 4WD but not as racy as a brushless buggy or stadium truck from Traxxas.

Hope this helps

Great help, thanks, this was a goood "lessen".

I had notice the E-savage from HPI before. I like it.

What about this one for 300 ?

Any idea on this one ?

Another ?......is the $300 total, or just for the truck? What about batteries, and a good charger? DONT get a cheap timed charger!!! They will just ruin your packs.

May I suggest a XL5 Stampede? They are durable, fun trucks!! I have one(trading it now) and they are perfect for the beginner. The only draw back is 2wd, but really its OK. The problem with ele buggys and stadium trucks is lack of ground clearance. It will dog on high grass yards. the Stampede is about PERFECT.
As a example.....

$180 Stampede

$50 Charger

$47 for 2 packs

Sop for less than $300 you can have a full RTR. Then I would say getting RPM parts for durability. Wide front bumper, arms, and bearing carriers. Also the metal Gear for trans.

If you don't mind a little smaller, try the Associated RC-18b or t with a a brushless conversion. They run right in your price range and will give your nitro a good run. These little monsters are great because there are a lot of aftermarket parts available if she wants to make it even better. The 18b is a 4wd buggy and the 18t is a 4wd truck. Both are 1/18th scale and don't need a lot of room to run. The brushless set-up that most run on them is the Castle Creations Mamba series. Fairly inexpensive and lots of power.
