Whatcha Printing?

That looks good dude.

I only ever use the paper to get me close. Then I have a test print that prints single lines in squares working from the outside in, every 25mm or so. I fire that up and level the bed on the fly. Best way to dial it in.

Watch that feeler gage doesn't damage your tip. Some of the tips are pretty fragile, right on the tip.
I'm getting just a minor amount of imperfections on this test print but I think it's probably due to not getting the glue stick in those areas. I'm feeling confident I can pull off this 11 hour print 💪

Good luck! If you're getting small spots pulling up on first layer, it is almost always your bed is still a tad bit low there. Give the knob closest to it just a tiny turn. But it looks good in the pic.

Started the boat hull center section, here's my test print, that area won't even be printed on so I'm not worried about that. Had to babysit the first few layers as it would pick up the bead in small areas. So far so good!

Here's the test print held up to a light

Looking good! I need to get a new FDM. Hopefully black friday brings some killer deals.

Since I really want to have this be a successful project, and I want two boats, I contacted someone on Facebook offering 3d printing services and they quoted me $100 to print everything. So I agreed. I will hopefully be able to compare the prints and it will save me days of printing time.

I am happy with my Neptune 4 pro. I think it was under $200. Theres better ones out there but this suits my needs for now. i'd love something a little more advanced but maybe in a couple years. I'm just learning about some of the slicer plugins and using klipper and they make printing so much better.

Looks pretty good. You are probably going to have to seal that with resin or epoxy.
yes, they need to be coated to make them water tight. I'm very happy with the results so far. i was concerned there would be more warping but there was just a minor amount and they make hull shapes to compensate for the warping. i'd look up the ragnarok project if anyone is interested. it is really well done, good readme files, build guide and active facebook community too.

I have one printed in Sunlu orange PETG at the moment. It's the best PETG I have used so far.
I am waiting for all the hardware and electronics to get here and start building it.
Nice, I like the sunlu petg. This is giantarm, iirc. It's not bad but I think I had my printer dialed in very good to the sunlu

Start a build thread and we can compare what components go into it.

Just as I had the nylon coming out pretty decent and closing in on a perfect print, I learned nylon has the potential to absorb moisture even after it is annealed. Not good for the boat project. I have wasted so much trying to dial in the printer on this cheet.
Back to PETG it is.

Still working on this jet boat build. Had my printer dialed in real.nice. then I tried to install a.macro in klipper and somehow ruined it. All my axis were way off. Completely lost z, printer thought 0 was about 10mm above the plate 😠
Ruined a tip when it stabbed my brand new plate and made a big scratch on one side. Ugh. I think I got it sorted again but what a nightmare.

What were you using the nylon for? The jet pump?
