What would be a fair offer?

A neighbor of mine seen me running the Savy today and approached me with an interesting offer. Turns out that he has a 2nd gen HPI RS4 that has been collecting dust for a little over a year in storage. He admits to not having the patience for nitro's, he simply liked building it. So far from what was explained to me, is that it's 90% CF and has a full set of alum. skid plates along the bottom. Original electronics, foam tires and a custom painted body. He has already GIVEN me a box full of spare parts (spurs, clutches, 2 Rx's, belts, shocks, a spare OS 12 MAX and more). I have NOT seen the car yet, but he's going to go and get out of storage in a few days so i can see it for myself. It was told to me that a year ago he tried selling it and couldn't even get $200 for it. when I asked how much he wanted for it now, he simply said he'll let me see it and to let him know what I think it's worth. What would be a fair price today for a rig that's several years old? I know it depends on condition ect, but a ball park idea would be helpful. Thanks.

P.S. I'll post pics of the parts he's already just given me for it tomorrow and will try to snap a few of the rig it's self once i see it to help.

I would offer him $150 if it is in good condition. He already said he could not get $200 out of it so he already de-valued it. You could just whip out a $100 bill and say how about this? Then say $150 if he does not except.

I was thinking $100 if it was in good shape, $50 if it's not so good of shape from sitting.

A car that old, considering how many spares were included... Sounds like $150 is a good starting point for negotiations.

I understand getting stuff at a good deal, but he is your neighbor, don't try to rip him off if the car is in good shape. With the extra's and if the car looks good I would start with $150 after running it down the street to make sure it operates properly. It is up to you what to offer if the car look like crap and you cannot get it ot run. I understand that it may take some cleaning to get it going from sitting for so long in a storage unit though, so ultimately it is up to you and how much it is worth to you to do the work.

lets see pix. if he built the car when it was new, he gave a very nice price for the aftermarket parts. it wasn't as cheap to hop up back then. i have 2 of the cars like your talking about. still nice cars.

Thanks guys, i appreciate the info. Providing the cars in at least decent shape, I'll start my base at $150 and go from there. I'll definitely snap a few pics also, as soon as he brings it over.
