What to get?

My 11yr old has a Nitro Mt2.

His cousin has an electric ( dont know what) that he races at the LHS on the weekends.

I would like to get my Son an Electric but i have no clue where to start!
I dont want a POS but, I also dont want to go crazy!

What is a good electric car to get so he can at least keep up? I dont want to have to spend an arm and a leg on upgrades.

What kind of racing? If it's indoor on-road, I'd recommend something like a TC4 RTR (http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=ASC30111) or a XXX-S Sport RTR (http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=LOSA0285) as good platforms to start with. Even in basic form, they'll be competitive and have tons of upgrades if he really gets into it.

Do you have a rundown of what kind of classes they run? That can start to point you in the right direction. What kind of car does his friend have? What cars do they sell/support at the hobby shop? That last question can have a big influence on what to buy. You're best served by buying a car that you can easily get parts and support for.

Just want ya to know I really appreciate the help! I have NO clue when it comes to Electric, and half a clue when it comes tom Nitro!

I know this is a few months later, but your LHS may have some used models (on consignment) that may be have been modded some so not only would you save a couple of bucks, but the car may have some upgrades already done.
