Me and my son are wanting to buy a car. i wanted a touring car he wanted a buggy. after looking at touring cars i dont think it is what we want.so what i'm trying to say is what do i get.we want something to build not rtr.something at least a.21+.

Go to

and

and read read read.
Buying a 1/8 buggy isnt as cut and dry as you think. Do you want a park/backyard basher? Or do you want a Chassis that is capable of some compitition down the road when you get the hang of it? Also what are you price ranges?

If I had my choice I would buy the Mugen MBX 5. It is an AWESOME kit that is both durable and race ready. If $600 for a chassis without radio/engine/tires is too much not to worry there are cheaper solutions out there that can actually compete with a few hop-ups later down the road for a cheaper intial cost. Now go read up.

we like all the ofna buggys this is my sons 1st nitro what is the best and what should i really get him( age 10)

age 10 is pretty young for a 1/8 scale gas powered rig are you really sure? Ofna's are ok but everyone knows I am not a big fan of them. I think and electric 1/10 buggy would more suit his age. It would take an incredibly skilled 10 year old with constant supervision to really make that work. Still game?

well he has a emaxx but it's not enough for him he wants more.

alright i think i'm gonna start narrowing it down. mp7.5, ultra gt lx, or mbx pro. which one is the quickest? and more reliable.

The kyosho 7.5 is a good buggy but I would throw out the ultra gt or mbx pro if there is any chance that he will race. Of the Ofnas, the Hyper 7 is the best IMO. Also, take a look at the Mugen MBX-4 XR before you get a kit. I have 2 of them and they are excellent cars and fairly easy to put together. You can look around on ebay and get some good deals on them.

i looked on ebay i still dont know what to get. why would i throw out the mbx pro and ultra gt? why are they not a good race buggy? and yes, i want him to start racing.

OFNAS ARE NOT RACE BUGGIES PERIOD!!!!!!!!! I dont know how else to explain it to you. Pro's dont race them! Am's dont race them. They are great PLAY buggies with the exception of the Hyper 7 which is a Ho Bao http://www.hobao.com.tw/ which is a race respected kit from a repected maufacturer but just get the Ho Bao instead of the OFNA.

Now go get you kid that Ofna.

oh jeeze I give up!!!!

[humboldtblazer throws hands in air and bangs his head against the monitor]

no dont give up yet ti is getting narrowed down NO OFNA......
now i need check out others

If you have the Inferno 7.5 on your list thats gonna be the sweetest buggy if you can afford it. Those things drive themselves I am sure Christian could attest to that. K's have everyone beat in handling but we will see if the can hold that title with the new Mugen MBX5 kit out now. Take a good look at Thunder Tiger they are a sleeper. You dont hear a lot in the states about them but the smoke! They are pretty affordable and if you dont mind ordering online (or you are lucky to have a LHS that stocks their parts) then this could be a possiblity for you. I suggest you go to your nearest LHS and find what models on your list that they stock parts for. When first driving a buggy I dont care who you are and which buggy you buy you will be breaking some stuff so you will want easy access to replacements and hop-ups. Also I think you are making a good choice to go with a kit I wish I would have it teaches you way more about your car before you even start it. RTR's are a quick fix for impatient people like me.

were is a good place to buy a7.5 online 449.00 is all i can find .

Thats probably as cheap as you will find it unless you are a lucky bastard like Christian!

how much did he pay

i called a hobby shop in houston they don't have them there on back order for 2 months. he also told me he would not sell me one if it was for a 10 year kid. he asked me do you know how much they cost. i said yes when finished about 2000. he said he would not put a 60 mph car in the hands of a 10 year old kid.am i aiming to high???

Thats what I was trying to tell you and electric with like a 17 turn motor should be enough for a 10 year old. By like you said he wants more speed than his Emaxx but going from 30-60mph is a huge jump.

if you want nitro, and it has to be a racer.... go with a 1/10th scale truck. They are still quick, but aren't near as fast as an 8th scale. Get either a Factory Team RC10GT or a Losi xxxnt. Both are great trucks, and it won't hit the wallet so hard either.

But if you just have to have an 8th buggy... go with the GS Storm Pro. It's list from the distributer is $429 so you can probably get it for a little cheaper. I'm not sure which hobby shop you called in Houston, but I know that both M and M Hobbies, and Larry's Hobbies carry the kit, and parts for the Storm. And I went to M and M the other day, and the did have a mp 7.5 in stock so maybe you called Larrys...

I have a storm, and it's great.

thats who i called m&m they said they were on backorder.he does want nitro.

I think Gman's idea is the best 1/10 scale 2wd truck in the AE or Losi flavors which ever you choose both are race bread performers but dont exclude the Mugen.
