Hi Everyone, new to this site.
Just wondering about what is the best setup to race offroad buggies. I have been into buggies for a while but all electric. I now have a Nitro Axis and absolutely love the power and handling of the bigger car. This has fueled my new found interest to race. I know I will need a more durable race buggy in order to compete. What would be the "ultimate" setup as far as chassis, motor and hopups. If this topic is already discussed, please link me to it so that I can read the outcome.
Thanks,

RC8 race spec, not the pro kit version. The race spec is more durable.
Put a GRP .21 with the 2053 pipe combo, good radio and servos of your choice. Couple sets of M3 Proline Holeshots, M3 Proline Crimefighters. You'll have one bad ass mofo. They have more steering than you know what to do with out of the box. Very easy to win club races with it box stock. You'll need the GRP to win bigger races though. That engine is simply amazing. 8-9 minutes a tank runtime and it is uber smooth with torque to spare.....running on the rich side. I'd put one on my Revo if they were not so expensive.
Therei s only one problem with the buggy and that's the gas tank. Associated is replacing the fuel tanks.

thanks for the info.
I have read about alot of racers using Kyosho Inferno's. What will a race buggy cost? Are there many dealers in Canada that handle these high end cars, or is it something I would have to get out of the US. Are there sponsors to this site that I could support by buying from them?
Thanks again!

Get the 3009 pipe for that GRP. It's allot smother, and will give +10 minute run times.

Everyone gave some great suggestions, glad someone else finally chimed in. The Kyosho can be hard to get parts for at times. It is an awesome buggy though, so is the new X-Ray. They are all the same caliber, but the Associated will be the easiet to get parts for.
See what your LHS stocks up best for.
Neobart, we have yet to try that pipe. We'll give it a shot. Thanks for the info.
It walks away from the O.S. V-Specs easily. We have yet to see anything that runs as strong as it does.

The 1st ? I woild ask is whats your TOTAL budget for this project?

I think buying a high end car right from the start makes sense IF you are going to race. From what I have read, there are alot of race parts already in these cars and if not these are the ones they will build hopups for.
I would think it would be alot more expensive to try and add a whole bunch of individual parts to a mediocure one.
What my answer is to your question about the budget, is that if I am in a race and have a good chance of winning, I don't want it to be the car that is lacking power or performance to lose it for me. I believe you only get what you pay for these days, so a cheap car is just that.

Ok. The Hyper 8, Mugen MBX5R, the RC8 and the 808 are good buggies. I have heard mention of the Losi 8ight, and to throw another one in from left field the HongNor LXone. Although mine has a Force .32 in it which is unraceable, the chassis is very strong and tunes out for track suprisingly well. Change the servos and put a .21 in it and you've got a goer..
I still love my Mugen though, the MBX5R is awesome!!!!
I also have an MBX5T (truggy) my opinion of which is........ not so much.........

I only ask about the $$$ because tthe kit is just a PART of the total race package.Paying for a ultra expensive buggy only to have a little left over for servos,a mill, radio, and a starter box dosent make sense. The kit does not win races, a driver does. So, is a "budget" hyper 8 that much different than a SP2? I am not so sure. I really believe most of the race kits will win races. a lot depends on driving style.

A jammin X1cr will get you racing for allot less money than most of the other kits. It's a very strong buggy, and it's also quite competitive.
