Hey guys,

Today it is supposed to be around 52 degrees outside. Is this too cold to break in a mill, and if so what is the lowest temp that you can still effectively break in a mill? Thanks

Tom

I think you'll do fine. The biggest consideration is how hot the mill gets. No matter what the ambient temp is, you want to get the engine up to just over 200F during breakin. That allows proper expansion of the piston and sleeve and allows them to seat properly.

Thanks Candyman... I was hoping today would be ok. The sun is shining and the wind is calm. Thanks man.

Tom

You better enjoy it! It's 25F and windy here today. But the sun is shining bright. It's that cruel BS us New Yorkers have to deal with in the spring. I'm itching to burn nitro and it's freaking Arctic outside!

I put em up at 50*F....keep in mind the temp they report on the news is in the shade....in the sun it'll be warmer.....go run that sucker man...before your vacation is over....

I have to run out and take care of a quick errand and then I am out to burn some nitro! Hey Candyman... hang in there. It is usually that cold here too. Our springs here in MD are crazy... either they are warm, or snowy. It seems there is no in between. In fact they are calling for snow in the morning here tomorrow. Sucks! That is why I would like to get some more tanks through it before then.

Hey Plaid.....

One question though. In another thread you mentioned that I should go BDC everytime, even when it cuts off. I understand that part. The part I am a bit blurry on is when it cuts off during break in, in the middle of a tank, should I let it cool at BDC even if it is in the middle of a tank?, or should I continue until the tank is done and then let it cool? Thanks man.

Tom

Yes, you should. During break-in is a very important time to let it rest at BDC everytime the engine is off immediatly after running it. You don't want the engine to cool with the piston at the top of the sleeve.

I actually let it rest at BDC during the whole life of the engine.

Thank you for the info my friend. The whole breaking in and cooling of the mill during break in is making much more sence to me. It just takes a few tries to get it right sometimes! Take care.
