LMAO Plaid you always seem to find the best words to describe something, that one gave me a really wierd visual....

The 55mph speed calculation does not take into account tires ballooning, but it also doesn't take into account things like aerodynamics and traction. The savage and most truck bodies are not aerodynamic at all...plus you have those big hunking tires out in the open fighting the air. Look at the 1/8 on road guys, their cars do 60+ mph but look how low they are to the ground, and most everything is tucked away nicely under the body.

Maybe it was clocked at 55kph. That would translate to about 34.5mph. IMO that would make more sense.

Plaidfish said:
if the tires are balloning it will never do 55......balloning tires = no traction

Not only that, but it puts more load on the engine... Also, no control... LOL

I say it's do-able still....I'm not gonna flame someone for stating something like that, especially when he seems to know what he's talkin bout......if someone came on and started the old "the box says 45mph, so it goes 45mph" then I'd be more inclined to jump in and yell ASSCLOWN!.....I know my T-maxx is friggin fast but it's too unstable from about 2/3 throttle on up....even w/ 40 roadrages and all..it's just not fun to drive it that fast....it maybe hits 40 but I didn't change the gearing much just a few more teeth on the CB......presonally I don't understand why anyone would WANT a 50+ mph MT but hey, to each his own.....

do you think before you type? Lets see Tire balloning=No traction? this is true but it only means no traction if you have the HP to break the tires loose we are talking about a truck that has 3hp not 300. and besides by the time your tires do grow or ballon the truck is already running 25-30 mph. Traction does become an issue at this speed but in order for my truck to run this fast it is done in a large parking lot no turning corners so traction is not an issue for this type of terrain.

Anthouer thing you guys need to keep in mind here I started this forum to find out info on a new engine for my Savage 21. now we are talking about my 25 truck more than anything. If i wanted to sit here and listen to everyone say how my truck can't Run 55 then I would have said something like "My trucks the fastest badest truck around it will run 80 off road!" But the fact is I started this to learn about other engines not tell you how my truck is built.

And finally Until you have seen this truck or you know me in person shut the fiddlesticks up. Its like me saying to all of you "oh your truck can't jump that hill or your truck can't do this or that" I dont know that I dont know any of you or have I seen any of your trucks. Think before you type guys its not hard.

Dude do YOU READ before you type??? before you ya blast me there, re-read who was defendinding you from being flamed on.....and as far as the traction when the tires ballon....I have NEVER seen tires balloon and not break traction....this usually happens in MTs whenweight gets shifted away from the tire and it lifts up enough to let it, UMMM I dunno, BALLOON......okay before I take your post too personally, lets just say I think we all gave some good input on the engine...after that the posts do get off topic...oh well happens all the time......the criteria you put to us for the new engine leaves very few options in BB over .21 mills.......personally I don't care if your truck goes 55 or 100...whatever I know it's possible and like you said until I see someones truck fail the test I'm not going to jump on a soapbox and start pointing fingers...everyone gets a chance in my book...until you lie or try to screw me you have that chance.....asking me if I think before I type was (IMO) taking a slam at me.....I didn't say or do anything negative to you....so ease up on the jabs there and take advice when you read it......a lot of us here actually do have a clue....

one more note:
I don't care about it but alot of people come on forums and spout how there truck goes warp speeds and all....then the flaming starts cause they can't back it up....some members like to see the proof to back up the claims...I know cause I've seen a friends buggy pull the front wheels up from an almost stop....now I didn't realize at the time he was running 80k weight in his center diff to do that but I made the claim and I got jumped on cause I didn't have video....whatever I know what I saw and since I couldn't prove it on the forum I just let it go...why start a friggin war over the internet about something that really means NOTHING to 99.9999999999% of the life in the universe.....if you put things in that perspective there is really nothing on this forum or pretty much any other forum to argue over.....sound fair????

So are you going for a basher or racer, because for a racer you do not need the type of speeds you were getting with your Savage 27. You wanted engine recommendations...you got them. On this board we go off topic a lot but good information is being shared, might not pertain solely to you but someone else who reads your thread can get something useful out of it.

Let's start clean...for a basher I recommend the Collari .30 and gear it up 17/47, imo a perfect balance of torque and speed for bashing in a Savage. If the speed is not enough I recommend getting an on road nitro ;)

Well diesel I said in a previous post I only got 50 bucks in the truck and I already have a FAST truck belive it or not But my plans for the 21 truck was to make a off road beat the poop out of it type truck. I looked at the collari 30 and have read that people are having problems tuning it (either they dont know what there doing or the engine it self is just hard to find a happy medium) so I'm kinda not looking into that engine alot but on the other hand I am looking at the .32 collari motor (go figure?) I can get this engine delvired for 200 and I can also get the sirio 30 for 240 delivred. I am happy with my sirio engine performance but the sirio lacks bottom end power the sirio is more mid range top end power. Anouther engine I have looked into is the STS or SH 28 engine it claims to have 3.6 BHP at 25k or 27k RPM something like that. so that to me would be a good off road engine haveing good power at a low rpm. But I dont know anyone with these engines. I want to find out more on the engines and how they do in a basicly stone stock 21 savage. (and yes I know the truck is gonna break everything when I change engines)

I forgot the gearing for the 21 truck I planed on starting out with a Tall gear set up Like a 52/14 which is almost like a 3:73 in a car that will be my starting point. I have almost every gear combo avalible already from my other truck. (speaking of my FAST truck I have found a 19,20, and a 21 clutchbell gear and I have found a 43 tooth spur gear. so my truck will be faster than 55 when I get done goofing off with the 21 truck)

Anyway Sorry for being an butthead towards you but the fact is I dont like it when someone claims my truck wont do as I say it will.

I KNOW the frustration, but I never said it wouldn't do it....re-read the thread dude.....as far as engines choices are you limited to a price range? if not check that modde rossi for your speedy truck and dump the sirio in the basher.....tellin ya that 421b hotts mod is the poop for all out unreal RPM vs. power.....I was under the immpression the Sirio .30 was basically the same as the Collari .30...someone even said the carb on theirs says sirio on it.....engine manufacturers will buy an engine and brand it w/ their name...OFNA/Sportwerks/Orion/Fantom...they all do it.....I'm sure there's Italian companies that do it too.....the rossi engines seem expensive but when you look at the life guys are getting out of them compared to the other brands it comes out the same or better.......

price of engine is not an issue with me I have over 3 grand in my one truck and the engine alone was 400 plus the wasted cash on trying all diff types of gears and back plates for the roto start to work. Someone in a previous post told me about a moddified Rossi 28 for 350 and I have consider that as well.

Kids run in fear of your badass truck huh? tell me what it takes to consider your truck BADASS! lol Id like to know what other guys have in there trucks I should start a new thread and ask you guys to post picks and details of mods you have done that you can't buy.

the truck inthat pic is a customized mutant maxx....I MADE the upper chassis and the Center diff brace out of 6061 aluminum (from RCS) so I could have a lower gear ratio......also had to make the Center spur gear mount for the OFNA gear to mount onth ediff cup....right now I'm between bad ass engines in it...I had a fantom .27 but the last one I got is a friggin lemon....it was the fastest mill I ever saw in abuggy for sure (not race legal but still fun as hell) anyway I have a VZ-b in the truggy now and it's FAST but not as fast as it was....it still chasses down buggies at the track......I've also got a hopped up T-maxx....there's pics of that one in a recent thread on the T-maxx forum here.....search mutant maxx and I know there's pics of that one too....I hate posting the same pics over again.......also have a few other projects going on (too many) one being a 4WS T-maxx w/ single point steering and limited rear steering throw.....had to make sharter ladder bars and custom steering knuckles (not finished those yet) ........I race an XB8 buggy (when I can get to the track) and the only mod on that is the front brace....I've only been in the hobby for just over a year but I grew up in a garage...my pop owns a machine shop and 1/2 of his garage has my machine shop in it now.....built 5 1:1 cars in my day and numerous machined items..........so yes I do have a little knowledge on this topic..... now that you've read my credentials may we see yours :D.......:jk: LX if any of my posts came off as being insulting....THEY WERE...no, I joke too much.....my motto is fiddlesticks em if they can't take a joke......

This is true, I have also heard the Sirio and Collari .30 are internally identical. I own a Collari B3 and on the carb it says Sirio.

LX, If you want a beat the poop out of engine go with something like a SH .28, but if you want a long lasting, high quality, insane powered mill go with something out of italy, or the OS .30 should be very good aswell. If money is no issue, I say modded Nova .28.

Plaid your maxx is a friggin tank...I thought my Savage was a heavy brick, we should run head to head and see who comes out alive LOL....

LX, the Collari is not hard to tune, it can have some overheating carb issues but I'm going to try out a composite sirio 27 carb. I'm hoping it will cure my hot start problems. If not I only have myself to blame for being a crappy engine tuner...My next engine is going to be the picco 27 for the track, I'll do a review when I pick it up tommorow.

Stupid question here what does it take for me to post pictures of my toys on here?

sweet deisel Which Maxx were you lookin at? the one w/ the nascar body is the tank...the mutant is actually lighter than a lot of buggies....the chassis is Titanium :D......I thought I cooked th ecenter diff but last nite I tore it down and it was just clutch springs got cooked... the shoes were a little worn but the spring on 2 of em snapped...I had th elil washers under em too......

The Nascar body one with the road tires is the one I'm referring to, sorry I assumed those links were to those pics.

Now the truggy I could take on but I'd have to catch you first lol. I'll be picking your brain on how you got the center diff to work out but I'll save that for another thread.

that chassis is made by HCR...called the mutant maxx....the design on their end only allowed a 55t spur as the lowest ratio on the driveline side...I tried a 12t CB and it was still geared too tall.....top end was unreal though but I couldn't get 3 tanks on a set of shoes.....I did a new top plate to allow more room for wider gear, made a mount for the OFNA ring gears from a monster pirate or dominator to fit on a GS storm diff cup using a Kyosho spur gear w/ the extra holes....them made a center diff brace to allow the bigger gear, now I have a MSR truggy brake cam I need to mod a little to use for rear brakes and I'm done w/ it....it is fast but it's been way more trouble than I think it will be worth in the long run......if you want a truggy wait for the HELLFIRE...that's gonna be the one to beat now......I think mine will be very competitive w/ them but if I brake a custom part I'm screwed.....

oh and even though the truggy is super light....it is just as strong.....I sent it cartwheeling for over 50 ft at WOT across gravel and it didn't even phase it.....also jumped my 1:1 truck w/ it and it flew AWSOME....
