I mean is it a piece of turd? Will it break the first usage or survive the master of disaster?

I've never messed with starter boxes so take my comments with a grain of salt. Looks kinda cheap made, and shakky. But if the price is right, lol, we all know it becomes the best one in the world, atleast thats how things work around my house.

Dude, it would help if we had say the brand name and perhaps the model. From the picture it looks okay, but a little more detail would help.

From what I've been told, its a good box, but since its made of plastic, there will be some flex in it.

it looks pretty trick. Its made of plastic so I assume its pretty lite. What kinda batteries does it take ? Two 7.2 stick packs or one 12V gel pack ? Also, what kinda motors does it have ? Two regular size electric motors, one 550, or one 770 ?

That is the stock box that comes with the Hyper 7 PCR. It takes two 7.2V stick packs. Not sure about the motor size but it is light. I have been told it is a good idea to take it apart and make sure everything is good and tight.

El Pirata-

I've actually seen one being used - or an attempt anyway - at a local club bash session. IMO, it's junk. I ended-up loaning the poor guy my OFNA 10253 starter box for the rest of the day.

The construction is weak (as stated above, it's plastic) and not nearly enough torque to handle a break-in, let alone start a typically tight engine. Even at BDC he couldn't get his broken in Hyper .21 to roll over. He had to depend on the pullstart to break the engine in and hoped it would work once the p/s loosened up a bit - no such luck.

I suppose as a last resort it's better than nothing.

It's made by Ofna and I don't know what it's ising for a motor but I do know it is made to run off 2 6 cell batteries. I have a really inexpensive one that I am thinking about getting, you don't want to know how inexpensive.

Had to ask, how inexpensive?

I will give you the info that was given to me relating to that box. I was looking at buying a Hyper 7 PBS from my LHS.. the owner told me that if I bought it he would GIVE me a Ofna 1/8th universal starter box (the one that is like 100 bucks after battery) to make up for the POS that comes with the Hyper 7. He said this for 2 reasons.. 1) he owns a Hyper 7 and the starter box lasted him almost 5 minutes.. and 2) every customer he has had that bought one came back with the same complaint.. the starter box broke. He also said that when that last Hyper 7 sells he will not be stocking another one (meaning the RTR version with the starter box).

There you go.. take it for what it is worth.

I have to say I've got that box (it came with the buggy) and I think it's decent. Obviously it's a budget minded box.
The box won't turn over an engine that isn't broken in, that's the only down part about it. After I broke the engine in, the box starts my buggy great. Last Sunday my buddy's gell cell went dead, so he used my box to start up his Wasp .26 and it did it no problem.
If you're looking for a high quality box with lots of power this isn't the one for you. If you want something that you can get a killer deal on that'll get you by, IMO it's a decent choice. However, if you don't get a great deal on it I wouldn't buy it. I'd spend a few more bucks and get a heavier duty box.

well i can tell you one thing about that starter box....Its black and has a sticker on it

god man you dont have to be so sarcastic!!:jk: without sarcasm there would be no meaning for life...that atarter box looks a bit too weak i saw some ones made by OFNA made of metal in one of myu magazines that looks lke it would take a good:doh:

i heard that it works good sold one to a guy and he hasnt come back with complaints but he has come back to the shop to buy other stuff
the mugen starter boxes are good

What do you guys have against pull-starts? I tried the rotostart thing on my Savage and to me it was just a PITA. Seems like the starter box would be more of the same. More batteries to keep charged, more junk to lug around. With the pullstart you just walk up to the car/truck/buggy and give it a couple of pulls and away you go. Granted, sometimes my arm is tired from lifting 12 oz beer cans to my mouth, but it always works when needed
