Ok I'm new to electric RC but my 3000mah took a dump and need to know whats better out there thats not ridiculous in price that is a nimh or nicd or something with longer play time & chargable on my peak charger & has a deans connector to run in my scx10?

Thanks guys!!

Go lipo if your charger will handle it. hobbypartz.com has some pretty inexpensive 2S packs. Hobbyking also has them for a good price. You won't be disappointed.

I run a 3200 mah 20c 2s LiPo on my SCX10. I'm running a mild brushed motor and ESC with an external low voltage cut-off. I can run all afternoon without having to charge the beast. If your charger will do LiPo, it's the only way to go.

Okay I'm at wits end, I cannot figure out why my nimh 3000mah doesn't hold a charge anymore but I'm looking for someone that can help me find a deal on the sites for a lipo battery and a charger. I dont know what 1s 2s 3s 4s is or w.e lol or the max MAHs I can run. With a deans connecter too

Rock on, still looking for more input but if I get a lipo or lets say any kind of pack, can I simply snip off the connector and solder my own deans connector to it? I have a couple 1500 nimhs but don't wanna snip and change out if I'm not going to get that much run time off of them.

Thanks for all the help guys!

What charger do currently have now?

As for a new NiMH battery I've use both ProTek and SMC (I'm currently running SMC Lipo's now) I'd recommend these two batteries: ProTek 4200mAh or SMC 4600mAh. While both have the junk tamiya connectors but you can easily add deans connectors to them.

Currently using the DuraTrax Pirhana but I'm still learning how to use it because I've never had a peak charger before. I think I killed my battery charging it as a nicd.... -1 for me...:(

You're charging your batteries as nicad instead of NiMh?! When you've charged them in the past did the battery get very hot? If so you've likely overcharged the batteries which will damage the batteries.

If not, then they probably always been undercharged which of course would explain the very short run times. It might be worth cycling the batteries, charging them (correctly this time, as nimh :) ) then discharging them. Do this 2-3 times then fully charge them and see how your run times look. It's worth a shot, but probably best to replace them with a new pack.

If you do go lipo in the future I'd HIGHLY recommend the Hyperion EOS 0606i charge, I have used this for the last year or so and this charger is top notch! Will charge just about everything under the sun including LiFe battery packs.

I did charge as nimh the 1st 2 times and got an hour out of the pack, then did a nicd not thinking staight, came out VERY hot, plugged it into my rig, steering worked fine but it would putt slightly and when id pin it, i could hear the rig trying to do something but would not move or would move extremely slow. I charged it the next day as a nimh and only would charge 4-5 mins then say charge complete, everytime, same result, functionable steering but no real movement. How do I discharge the battery if I cannot run it in my rig? I will try that but for sure am going to my lhs to ponder on lipo or some more nimh packs.

The charger and battery he is trying to use comes from me, he just got them with the scaler. This is his charger

The pack is an Epic nimh 3000 it's old but should still be good, he said he got almost an hour runtime on the scaler (I sent it fully charged) but he can't get more than a few minutes now. I think he's having trouble getting the charger settings right but I totally suck at explaining things (sorry man), if someone can do a better job at explaining how to set it up I would really appreciate it.

Haha no worries man you did fine, I set it up 3000mah & it said whatever amp u use it runs a little lower so I did a 3.3 amp, no idea what peak is but it said it auto adjusts to the pack. Through the settings it says 'Trickle' whatever that means :)

The trickle setting is a very small amount of current being sent to the battery to keep it topped off. If you're trying to charge it at the trickle setting, it will take a very long time.

Whats a nice nimh battery mah size that wont do any damage but give me lots of play time? Is 5000mah too much?

Also, my traxxas wp xl5 esc lights up red when i pin the throttle with this 3000 in it, no movement whatsoever, just had a fresh charge on it prior to hooking it up, this mean its a dead dead pack?

Have you ensured the batteries in your transmitter is charged? Also have you tried to recalibrate the ESC to the radio? Else you might want to get a hold of Traxxas.

Transmitter have brand new duracells and the rig worked before without the "recalibration" what is that? The esc turns on, lights green, then when throttle is applied the green goes red, then green when i let off, no steering at all

If someone could help me use and understand the Traxxas WP XL5 esc would be greatly appreciated. I can't find an online manual anywhere.
