yes spray it with WD and then leave it to dry. (if i remember this is what you told me to do lol)
 
Your question is a bit confusing. You are dealing with 2 different issues.
WD40 is fine to clean it with. I would choose to use denatured alcohol but use what you have.

I would not lubricate it with WD40 before installing it. It would help to know what your using the one way in, a pull start, front dif, ????
From there we can help you decide what to lubricate it with or to lube it at all.

its on the pull start

edit its slipping
i think its because i sprayed it and didn't let it dry (wanted to test the new reverse mod and brakes)

you could clean it in meths first (denatured acohol).

as that will get rid of all the grease.
