WD-40 Specialist Dry Lube not really dry and not a great lube

For the suspension and drive train parts of my RC ground vehicles, I like to use an aerosol product that flushes out dirt and grit and leaves a dry lubricant after it evaporates. My favorite product, by far, is Hornady One-Shot Gun Cleaner and Lube. It is fairly expensive and not available in my tiny rural town so I have to mail-order it. I also like DuPont Non-Stick Dry Film Lubricant, also a mail-order product for me.

When I was at the hardware store recently, I picked up a can of the inexpensive WD-40 dry lube product to give it a try. I found that it doesn't seem to completely evaporate and leaves a very thin oily film. Looking up the MSDS, I see that besides the aerosol propellants/carriers, the active ingredient seems to be Mineral Oil... not the best lubricant and not dry.

I'm sure it's great for some applications, but I don't think it's ideal for my intended use.

Since you have to mail order, have you tried Cow RC products? I like their silicone spray, it really restores plastics with minimal effort.

One Shot is damned good stuff for sure. I haven't really found anything comparable to be honest. It's kind of a go cheap and get a mediocre lube, or spend the money for One Shot.

Funny thing is One Shot used to be fairly reasonably priced, then it skyrocketed.

I have not yet tried any of their products but have noticed lots of very favorable reviews...

It has scored extremely well in at least one comparison test I've seen and, in my experience, it's a great product; an all-time favorite for its intended use in firearms and many other uses.

I've used 3M #08897 Dry Silicone Lubricant on my 3D printers and been impressed with its performance, on sliding components that I didn't want to use grease that would gather dust. True to its word it dries to a slippery film. I've even used it to coat the interior of control rod guides by directing it down them and they were silky-smooth after, after having sticky, binding movement before.

They even specifically mention: "This product contains no petroleum oils to stain fabrics and will not freeze at -28 degrees F nor degrade at +350 degrees F."

Side note, in my experience any 3M product that comes in a plain can and just has a product number is going to be better (and often cheaper) than something with a flashy name and package.
