i am in the middle of waterproofing my volcano sv, and need to know if i need to do anything to the engine or the air intake

Depends on how exposed the filter is. If it's hanging out of the body, they you can use a part of a pill bottle to create a cap to cover the exposed filter. As long as it's a bit larger and serves as more of an umbrella than a "cover", it will allow air in but not be so exposed to water/snow.

You can also buy a purpose built filter. Not sure of the scale of your rig though.

Like these:
1/8 scale:

1/10 scale:

i have a 1/10 scale and the filter protector lokks good would i need to do the same thing if I'm mudding or would that same thing work for mud too?
