I have a 2wd slash that has a castle creations 5700 and I think a castle creations side winder esc.. I was wondering what would give it alittle more power or should this thing be alittle more insane than it is??? I bought it used and I kinda was expecting more considering its rated for 60 with the other brushless system......Thanks ahead of time... I looked to see if there was anything else on this but couldnt find anything(I dont know if I just didnt use the right words or not.... so if there is other ones like this i am sorry!!) I am new to electric, I normally run nitro all the time but the family wanted to have both so I wanted the extreme to start off with.( well tried to) I have a track around the house but it is kinda not enough room for nitros for the fact I can't open it up to clear the fuel so they hog up alot.... hense the electrics for around the house now.......


I was thinking what gears does everyone else run aswell cause that could be half the problem....

What batts are you using?

Run a full battery, then check the temps on your motor at it's hottest point. Check it right after running, then again about 3-4 minutes later. Without exceeding 175f, you can just keep gearing up on the pinion. Cool thing about brushless, is they keep making power.

I will check temps and see what they are and I am running a Duratrax 5400 7.4v 5400mah lipo It has an 18t pinion and a 90t spur on it and I have been looking over the charts and am kinda lost for some reason I can't get it today... Thanks again

I have an 86t and an 83t spare spur gears would those help in top end????? on cold and sinus meds. and can't think today i know i sound completely usless today...lol

I also have a 26t pinion for my rustler and a 28t pinion for my daughters bandit would those work to any of your knowledge???? I know that most gears have different pitch's and dont want to start chewing gears up.. Thanks

Traxxas speed claims using their Velineon setup are based on using the speed gearing and a 3S Lipo.

Messing with gearing on a 2S Lipo will only get you so much. If you want insane speed you will need to volt up.

i was thinking of uping the battery aswell i kinda want alittle more top and alittle less torque so I can have alittle better handling on the dirt tracks..

Get the castle link and setup the way you want and throw a 3s on it.

I just got a brand new lipo for it and wow the difference is amazing!!!!!!!!! it flips itself right over with full throttle on the pavement!!!!!!!!!!! but after about a half an hour of using it i felt the motor and it felt hot but by the time i got the temo gun it was saying 96degrees but me and the boy had to stop the fun because the stearing was still working but was getting nothing out of the motor and I know the battery still had good power because right before that it flipped itself without a problem just from hitting the gas..... I waited a few minutes and plugged in the old warn out lipo and it started working again.. I havent tried the new battery again but I will in a.m. if it isnt raining!!!!! the other thing is before I took new lipo out i turned the truck off and back on and noticed that it did the first noise but wasn't doing the secound noise that lets you know the motor is ready..... does anybody know what thid might mean???????? Please dont tell me that the motor is warn to because that would suck!!!!! I was just getting ready to buy another slash setup the same excact way for about 150 or I can get the vxl 4x4 stampede for 225.... Hard decision but I wanted the slash alittle more to have family races and I have a guy that has a paved track that wants all of us to come and race our slash and I would like to go with 2 so 2 of us at a time can race... any input on that would be awsome to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You all have helped out so much I just want to say Thanks for being willing to help out when I needed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it works now so I am really confused!!!!!! it didnt go through any water at all.... it does get a real good beating when it goes outside.. we jump the thing coninuasly...... but nothing looks loose at all..

what problems you got going on????? and did you get yours dry timah????

I am having the same issue with my Sidewinder ESC not sure what it is. I am running identical batts both are gensacearespammers 5000mah 40c one works great the other seems to run fine for about 2-3 min then it cuts in and out but my buddy can put that same battery in his set-up and it runs great with out a issue kinda puzzels me almost seems like that battery can't put out the current it needs so it cuts out. I have checked it with a volt meter and its not even below 8v yet so its not the lipo cut-off

thats messed up cause the older battery that has less umph runs till its dead (no were near the power of the new batt) it might be bigger then the new one but it is almost done I only get 15 min of time and no wheelies with my duratrax 2c 5400mah batt.. the new one is 7.4 v 4100mah 2c lipo and that one puts out more power cause its brand new and holds a charge....

Mine runs fine again.... I wonder if I over heated it without noticing..... me and the boy put this thing through hell... at first I beat on it to see how strong it was now we beat on it cause it takes everything we have thrown at it..... or should I say thrown this thing at l.o.l. I will let you know what happens I am bringing her out in a couple min.s before it starts raining again....

yeah i did i waited and when i plugged everything in it worked i took it outside and i hit some gravel it stop and burst into flames

the speed controller is supposed to have a fail safe and it don't...

thats messed up I have ran a few packs through my slash and I think when it stops running is maybe it shuting down to save the battery.... not completely sure though..... it runs great up until it just stops and I have been checking the temo regulary and 115 or 119 was the highest I think I have gotten so far....

I would update the firmware on the ESC. I had a lot of problems with the sidewinder until I put the latest code on it now it runs great.

make sure that you are not running those lipo's down all the way. they can and will blow up if over discharged. idk if the speed controll (esc) has a lipo cutoff or not.

if you want more speed heres some things you need to think about when gearing...
1. bigger pinion = hotter motor, more top end
2. bigger spur = cooler motor, more bottom end

you see this is why I ask everyone on here what to do because I doent know electrics at all.... How would I update the esc.???? I should probly know that but I dont I have been running mostly nitros past year or 2 and never got involved with the electrics I used to have ( the golden arrow and stuff like that from radioshack back in the day..) when ever I broke them I just ended up shoven them off to the side and end up getting a new one after a while and when I had a few broke I would interchange parts but that was about it.... Thanks for the ideas and for the info....... Is it a program you have to buy or can you download it or??????? like I said clueless on this subject.

You need either a Castle Link or a Castle Field Programming Card. Once you have those just go to the Castle Creations site and follow the instructions for updating the firmware.

thanks I will let you know what I end up with... it will have to wait till next friday though I hate bills.... why can't i be a kid again so I can just focus on fun????? so those cards and stuff 1 will be good for all castle motors or do I have to get one that is matched for my engine????

the programming software is for the esc (speed control) i would get the castle link, over the field programming card.

edit: with the castle link, i believe any programmable castle speed control can be programmed with it.
