using rc nitro in -15F?

It's very cold up here in winnipeg in December and am wondering if I should just avoid using it in such cold weather. The other day I was using using my nitro at -23C or -15F and I noticed the motor was only slightly warm to touch even after using it a wide open throttle so I wondering if this can cause engine damage if the engine can't warm up enough? I keep it inside and start it while it's still warm from inside.

Well I will be honest and say i dont exactly know for sure but since the engine requires heat to a certain point anywhere from 220-260 degrees to operate normally I would say its not helping it any but i can't see where as it is hurting.Again I'm not sure but thats the way I think about it.Damn thats cold think you might want to move,lol j/k

Wrap your cooling head with aluminum tape or even a small sock to get the motor temp up when running in cold weather.

great idea, I just wrapped a few layers of tin foil around the cooling head that should keep in some heat.

cut up a pop can, put it around the head. not that I've done it, yet, is 25 above f here in wichita ks. and iv got tons of pop cans. can't shot them with my pellet gun they slide to the side

I would not dare run ny engines in those temps! Let alone take my candy ass outside. I hate the cold.
Seriously, 30F is the temp that most engine and fuel manufactuers say is the cutoff point. I'd run a body with no cooling holes in it as well if you can't stand it and want to drive anyways.

I've done up to -20c but then if everything isnt preheated and started it wont run for long on the ice. I've always wraped my engine in aliminum and have a thermal aluminum insulation combo wraped around the tank anyways because I've already lost a car to tank/exhaust fire and i dont want another to blow. if it does stall in that cold and you dont get to it right in time its going to be hell to start and you will have to go reheat the engine.

Ice and snow are fun but I'm with Scrogg, I couldn't stand to get outside in that temp.

I'm the same way. I dont think I want to take the extra time to wrap everything up including myself just to go out and freeze. Besides when your done you will have all that mess to clean up and to me that a hassle. As stated in another post I want to go out and have fun not worry about ruining my truck and getting frost bite.

Just start the rig up while you are in the living room, open the door and toss it out...and drive it from inside looking out the window! ;-)
