tx/rx probs HELP!!

ok heres the dl.. i got this buggy, its an ofna ultra gt.. came with a radio that the guy said worked.. it didnt.. so i get new radio same one just new.. it worked for about 2 tanks befor starting to glitch and eventually stoped working all together.. i thought it was the crystals but upon further testing i find it to be the crystals and the receiver.. on both.. i put on a fully funtional traxxas rustler radio works great for about 8 or so tanks.. then it starts glitching and i have only about 10 to 15' range befor it cuts out.. take it off and put it on another car.. and it works fine.. back in the buggy and it works fine.. but i dont wanna push it because it isnt my radio.. so heres the problem.. that buggy has taken out 2 radios, almost 3!! i dont want to buy another one for it untill i can figure out why its doing this!! i checked the battery (1200mah venom hump) it was setting at 6.5v with no load.. dropped to 5.5 with 2A load..(not fully charged) so i discharge it to .5v under 2A load (i know thats way low but i wanted to make sure the pack cells were charging right.. ) then peak charged it on a vison peak charger at 1A then retested voltage and its at 7.2v with no load.. fully charged i havent tested another radio in it as that gets expencive.. has anyone had this problem?? am i on the right track suspecting the battery pack?? at first i though it was the cheepo ofna (duratrax) radios but it did the same on the traxxas radio.. PLEASE HELP ME!! the buggy is so much funner to drive !!! i want to drive it!! but i can't aford a new radio every other week!! thanks in advance you guys.. sorry for the long post!!

1) make sure the RX isn't mounted to or touching anything graphite or metal. 2) Same for the RX antenna wire as per#1. 3) Check for breaks in RX antenna wire and replace if needed. 4) make sure both RX and TX batteries are fully charged. 5) check for loose parts or anything that may be vibrating or rubbing on the car that may be causing the glitching. Also check the clutch bearings and clearance between the bell and flywheel.

rx is plastic so it is not touching metal exept for plastic housing.. wire is fine on 2 of the rxs one had a fray but not bad.. batterys charged.. this wouldnt cause it to kill rx they are dead, broke, no worky, trash, car is tight as far as i can tell clutch bearings good and it spins freely again what does that have to do with killing the rx??

My first suspect, after going through 3 radios with the same problem, would be the battery pack. There's the possibility that there's a bad cell or bad connection in there, and after some run time it heats up and you lose the connection or the bad cell drains the good ones.
You also need to check the entire electrical system for frayed or pinched wires that could be shorting out due to vibration when you're running.

the recharge wire on the switch was frayed badly.. i taped it up but it didnt hold.. but that only sees power when the switch is off.. is there a way to check the battery?? all the electrical was new.. (servos, radio, ect.. ) i dont think there are any frayed wires.. ill check though.. I'm thinking its the battery thats the only part that i havent changed or was new.. anyone know how to test these??

Sometimes a battery won't fail unless it's vibrating or is warming up from use. The cheapest test would be to pick up a battery holder at Radio Shack and put in Alkaline penlights and see what happens. If you don't have a problem running that setup, then you know you have a defective battery pack in there now.
You don't know how many times the pack you have has been charged either, so it may be at the end of its' useful life. If they are NiCads, it might also be a memory problem. If the batts can be revived, you'll need to discharge and recharge them 3 times, and see if they improve.

Actually, the little radio shack battery holder is only a couple $ and then 4 AA alkilines. It's a cheap way to test.

It sounds like all other bases are covered.

You've tried the receivers in a different vehicle or on the table out of any vehicle that are suspected to be broken? Just curious.

I have serious range issues and I'm not certain why... but that's for another thread. But I'll be keeping an eye on this one to see if maybe I can solve my 75 yard range issue.f

It is rare to impossible to have the Tx go bad, and more rare to have the Tx go bad because fo the Rx, so, your problem is either the Rx's or the batts. Seeing how as you had 2 Rx's seemingly go bad, and possibly a third, I go with Rolex and think you have a bad batt pack. I would test it with the 4 pack set up and if it cures it get a new batt pack. Also, the recharge switch set up is not expensive so go get that too. Can't hurt to make it more bulletproof.

Ok I can't believe no one hasn't brought up your servo's??? I know of many receivers taken out by faulty servo's-- it is more common then you think--it could be a frayed servo wire---or just a bad servo shorting back to the rx--I would first check the wiires though, it might just move around enough when your runnin it to find something to short out on???? My bet is the servo's--just seen it to many times.

the servos are new and i checked the wires.. so far so good.. ill have to wait till i get a new radio befor i can test with the battery packs..

beason, think about it. There is no return signal from the Rx to the Tx and no hard wire as well, so how could a Rx or Rx Batt pack problem fry a Tx? It has to be the Rx, the Rx batts, the servos or the wires from any of these items. Also, it might be cheaper to get a set of new crystals for your Tx that you have so you can check the batts and servos.
