as what I have learned in tuning the nitro engine I don't really tune my cars base on temp. Most important you had a solid smoke trail on the exhaust where your engine runs best. and it depends on the nitro content and oil of your fuel. Cause I encounter this problem also when I change the brand of fuel that I am using before. Temp gun is only a guide do not base on a certain temp, cause once you tune your car to its best run or performance check the temperature maybe only 220 - 240.

I only tune according to temp if its running too cool or too hot.. if I'm driving awhile and i see the temp getting high... like 300 + then i know i need to run a richer tune... but other wise i just tune based on how the truck runs.

First and for most you want to know your altitude... based on that youll be able to determine how thin or thick the air is around you.

there is no way for me to give you tuning advice because altitude plays a huge part in it. I can maybe help you with tuning if i know your altitude but other than that its hard to say.

For example though what i can say is that the higher the altitude you are in the leaner mixture you will have.. the lower the altitude the richer.

What i like to say is, more air more fuel less air less fuel ..

another words.. the higher your altitude is the less air around you, the less fuel is required to run. and vice versa.

For me, I'm at 4000 ft so the stock needle settings mean nothing to me. The day i got my savage just trying to start it, it flooded with in seconds. I run about 1 and a half full turn lean for my HSN stock needle setting. and even that is still slightly rich.

If you are sea level then the stock carb settings out of the box are probably almost ideal and minor tuning will be required.
