HPI Savage 4.6ss (21 Engine)

Hi guys, I’m after some information and advice..

I’ve got this 4.6ss next to my Savage X which has blown a rear differential (front wheel drive only) I’ve taken the diff casing out and can’t see any damage or issues at first sight however will more than likely replace/rebuild it.

Would anyone happen to know where I can either
A. Purchase a complete new unit
B. Purchase the guts to rebuild the diff
C. Know of another similar diff that would work in this truck

I'm not a savage expert, but I believe that everything is the same as the current 4.6 x chassis? I think the new release just got a face-lift. Do you know around how old this model is? Could look up the manual for this one and the new one and compare part numbers

I believe the 4.6ss was released around 2007 not long after the first Savage X was released

We have been given this part number for the internals but I’m not sure if they are correct or not

So Here is the manual for the ss

And the diff page. Should be all the part numbers you need for a full rebuild

I would tear the diff down completely and see specifically which parts have shredded. Then order 2 sets, one for now and one for the next time it happens lol

The difference between the x and ss is the ss was a kit and has option parts from the factory. Best place is ebay. I've heard the newer ones are different so do a visual before buying.

You could be correct there! Unfortunately the parts needed to rebuild the diff have been discontinued altogether

Parts pop up on ebay. A few months ago they had the whole bulkhead and diff set pulled off s new truck for around 60 or 70. The truck was an ss with chrome outputs well over 10 years old still new.


Another option is a parts truck.

Managed to find the internals on eBay after a good search! So will rebuild the current one when this arrives and fingers crossed it’ll be good to rip
