Amen brother 'motor....Lastly it is my (strong) opinion that a race grade KIT, is absolutely the way to go-no matter what your intentions are. The cost over the long run is the same, or even cheaper due to not having to spend tons of money upgrading not only subpar electronics, but upgrading factory RTR parts, spares, plastics, etc, and they are far easy to work on. They’re also much more durable, even (especially) if just bashing around. Factoring in that ANY race grade kit is lighter, and more capable as well… The best upgrade available for ANY vehicle in RC, is the ability to sit down, and build it yourself.![]()
There are many acronym interpretations for "RTR". It's always the "ready-to-rebuy" that comes to mind first.
That is exactly why I typically seek out kits. I enjoy "the build" too much. A box full of metal and plastic bits sealed in a bunch of labeled baggies... now we're talkin'! Picking and choosing what electronics I want to go on my RC's chassis makes better sense. Even though the vast majority of kits out there are race bred vehicles, they make the best "bashers". Don't get me started on "bashing" terminology.
Of course, there had been a couple times I did make an exception to my kit only rule to entertain some weird notion I had. Those couple of times... it was always because of price. Either the company was almost giving RCs away, or stupid low winning eBay bids. Rollers don't count
