Hey dudes,

I just love the looks of a truggy...but don't feel like changing all the gears setups and tightness of the servo saver. So...are there any like yellow rims that are 17 mm direct bolt-ons(I'm understanding that if you put MT tires on you put more stress on the drive shafts and thats not good, right?)? I'm sorta going for this look(I also want a truggie body so I have to get some 4 post mounts, correct?):

I feel ya, I want the same thing. someone said you could use Panther Boa tires. they are larger then Buggy tires but smaller then MT tires. but they are a bit pricey. I wish someone would make an adapter so you can use 1/10 ST tires and wheels on a 1/8 buggy

oh ya if you want that look you should just get a ST.

You could try the OFNA full offset truggy wheels, available in white, black or yellow. They are a 17mm hex fitting and you probably wont need hub extenders due to the offset.

Panther Low Profile Komodo Dragons should fit these wheels and are very low profile. You might get away with a 12T or 13T clutch bell as apparently they are the roughly the same diameter as buggy tyres (4.5").

He said 12 or 13...

I'm running the OFNA blazer wheels/tires on my buggy and I had to gear down quite a bit. I'd still like more low end than I have. I upped my spur 4 teeth and dropped my cb to a 12T. It's still sluggish off the line. I may end up re-doing the diffs to drop the ratio more... but that will cost about $80.

$25 spur, $18 bell, $60 wheels/tires, $80 diff... adds up after a short while. I had to modify my radio tray to even fit the spur in. I also had to raise the center diff a quarter inch or the spur drug on the chassis.

He said I might be able to get by with 12 or 13. What buggy do you have that you had to modify? My buggies spur gear area is pretty clear for about 1/4 inch.

If you've got an engine that will pull 15/46, you could even get away with 6" T-Maxx tyres if you gear down to 12/48.

The trend for truggies seems to be to stick a torquey .28 mill in.

I have a Force .26 as the Stock engine. It's not much, but it's okay. I could gear down, but it would affect top speed, correct? It doesn't matter to me...my buggy is to fast for me anyhow!

Just putting the rims/tires on will EAT your clutch. It will KILL your bottom end and raise the top some. Even when I ran a 13t bell and smaller Blazer SST tires, it wiped out my AL. clutch on my Ofna in no time.

True, but the Panther Low Profile Komodo Dragons are apparently the same diameter as buggy tyres (4.5"). If you use the larger T-Maxx size tyres (6") you will need to reduce your final drive ratio by 33% - a 12/48 or 13/52 pinion/spur ratio would be a good start.

True, the LP's are the same dia. as buggy tires, whats the point of using them then? They are not that much wider either. To me they look silly on a truggy. Just M.O. But they will save your clutch.........

I guess for racing purposes the normal tyre diameter keeps the Centre of Gravity in the same place as a buggy.

If you fit the larger tyres then the CoG is raised and the car will be less stable in cornering, although longer suspensions arms should help to counteract this.

For bashing, I like the idea of the larger tyres, more ground clearance means you can run your truggy in places where running a buggy would have been difficult.

I run the ofna wheels with komodo's on my buggy converted to a truggy and it works very well didn't need a gear change no probs with clutch either works great. psunitro the purpose of running komodo's is the advantage of lower center of gravity and less rotating mass narrower tire helps carve a corner better and low side wall means no sidewall flex and when your in the air throttle input or brake input doesn't dissturb the balance as much there are a ton of advantages to the komodo's and you don't get the pizza cutters from the diff unloading on the long straights i personally don't know why you would want to run anything else

Sorry Spit, didn't see your question. I have an older HB lightning. I'm running a 3-shoe clutch, sportwerks 12T bell, HB 50T spur, OS 21 RG engine and ofna blazer tires/wheels.

No. The spur was for the HB lightning ST. It bolted right on. I did have to raise the center diff about 1/4 of an inch so it wouldn't drag on the chassis.

If I do re-do the diffs, I'll use the gears from the lightning ST as well. It uses a larger ring and smaller pinion to get the extra drop in gear ratio to handle larger wheels/tires.

the thing you might want to keep in mind if you plan on racing is i think the ofna blazer narrow tires are not legal for racing and they don't give you the wide offset some people are looking for great pic though

Don't know what you have. Don't really know what you are looking for.

Here is a set of the 17mm yellow rims for 40 series tires. http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/149937.asp

Digger - I have an Ultra LX Comp w/ Force .26 . Thanks everyone for the help but I think I'm going to have to wait to make a truggy...I need to get the car running first!

The reason I dont run them is they look WAY too much like a regular buggy tire! The 1st time I saw these a guy was running them on a Tmaxx, and EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE thought it looked really bad. I understand the advantages of these, but I perfer reguler Bowties, not even the 40 series. Jumping is not a problem, a little driver imput is good, I like to feel the TRUCK needs me. And as for the pizza cutters on straights???That is fixed by changing the fluid in the diffs!! That and strapping the tires. Not that difficult.
